Seat swapping from other cars

I was wondering if anyone knew what other cars' seats would fit into our cars. I would dearly love to upgrade my seat to that of possibly a late 80's MR2, or early 90's Talon.

I'm fairly certain that the passanger seat in the Talons had the same type of raised rail on the console side, so this may help it fit in ours.

Anyone have any clues on fitment?

Thanks,
Brian

not to be mean or nothing bro, but why? Why does anyone want to swap the seats out.

In the case of the late 80s MR2 seat, it is more supportive than standard RX7 seats. Plus the leather seats in the GSL, which is the car in question in this case, are not all that comfortable on long trips, and you tend to slide around under heavy cornering. Then again, I am rather too big for my car so that could just be me.

ok everyone I have answers to those "sliding" issues. Throw some 5-pt harnesses in there. I got em in mine and love em. I'm big for the car too, hell anyone thats over 200 is big for the car, I'm 220.

comradegiant is right. I'm just looking for more comfort, and some more side support under heavy cornering. I used to own a '93 Talon, and I love those seats. And while at the junk yard today with a buddy, I saw not only a '93 Talon with perfect seats, but also the seats in an '88 MR2. He used to own an MR2, and said they are also very comfortable and supportive. That is why those particular cars were listed.

Trust me, at 150 I slide around plenty also. Plus, I really don't like the idea of 5 points in my daily driver. It's not a track car, and if I do get pulled over, I don't want the cops to have one more reason to think that I drive it like it is.

How about seats out of an FC? A lot of people seem to be having a good time putting those in. And I hear the Turbo II seats are excellent for support and comfort. Otherwise, you'll probably need a drill, the tracks for the seats, and the seats from either of your other two choices. The MR2 seats would probably work best in a 2 seater application, since the Talon seats are for a four seater.

Anybody know if the Talon seats are different from the Eclipse seats? I know most of the changes were in the outward appearance of the car, but I wasn't sure on interior.

AH, and I WISH I could still weigh 220. I fit myself in my car, dispite hauling around 320 pounds on a 6'8" frame. The lesson here: anyone can drive any car if they put their mind do it.

I am going to put some Miata seats in my car this Summer. I hear it isn't too much work.

2nd gen seats bolt directly in.

I've seen some CRX seats in there, and they look EXCELLENT:

Not a very good shot of this car, but i saw them in person, they look GREAT!

You can unbolt the stock seat sliders from the seat and put in any seat you want, including aftermarket. Make your own adapter plates between the top of the slider and the seat if you need to or just make new holes in the bottom of the new seat. Use only Grade 8 or 10.9 metric equivalent hardware with nylon lock nuts. Been doing this mod for years. No need to buy custom adapters when its this easy.

What about the fact that the rails are at different levels on the passenger side? Don't you need to find a seat that is made the same way? To where the console side rail is higher and angled, rather than right on the floor pan like normal?

Fuel524 05-05-04 04:52 PM

you can make just about anything work and there are a variety of ways to approach swaping seats with different tracks. im hoping on finding some seats out of a prelude as my friend has them and they are low the floor and have side boulster adjusters, and lumbar and relitvly light i think theyre outa the 92. my 2 cents. as far as DSM seats theyre all the same contour in the 89-94, and yes only cosmetic changes were made, i use 2 have a red talon tsi fast cars. i would go with mr2 seats.

I puta cobra bucketin, I just moded the sock brackets, it turned out pretty good

BrianHeston 05-05-04 06:10 PM

Well thank you all for the input guys. I think I'll go used seat shopping sometime soon, and see what I find. :)

ok I forgot to mention, leave the stock seats belts as well. I have 5-pts and stock. I normally just strap the lap belt on to do my daily driving. I'm screwed if I get pulled over, I have the roll cage in plain sight lol. Cops around here don't mind my car much though, it's pretty cool. They love to pick on the ricers however.

does anybody have anymore info on swapping crx seats into a 1st gen. Also my friend used to own a FC with 90-94 celica seats which were really nice when spirit driving. My guess is that if they fit in a FC they should fit in the SA/FB with relative ease.

BrianHeston 05-06-04 09:10 AM

I'd be interested in more info on the CRX seat swap myself. We have tons of the little bastards running around in this area, so seats from them should be cheap. From what I remember from my brother's, they were fairly confortable as well, though I never really did any spirited driving in his.
