SE owners that have aftermarket wheels...
I think most of you are running 15x7 or 16x7 wheels with a 38-40mm offset. My question is...how much room is there between the spring and the inside front tire at the closest point? Please list your wheel & tire size and about how much clearance you have.
Thanks |
Konig Traffik rims; 15x6.5 40mm w/ GC coil overs. They have about the same clearance as the factory setup did.....which isn't much. ;)

Konig Tuner rims
16x7 +35 mm offset BFG Euro(trash) T/A 205/40/16 Eibach ProKit lowering springs Prolly like 3mm of clearance on the front springs. I worry that they will rub when they compress, however the car has yet to work since installing the prokit (engine swap) so we will find out soon enough. They should be MORE than fine tho w/ that much clearance. My next set of tires will be something like 205/45/16 tho, that is the propper size of tire for a 16" rim. I'll go wider in the back. |
Enkei RSE 16x7 - a whisker of clearance
|
17X7 enkie rse 40mm of set, cum-ho 711s 205-40-17. the only place they rub is on the racing beat sway bar, the didnt rub with the stock one tho....
|
Core Racing 15 x 7's (w/ 205-55 tires) - no rub but very close
|
MB272's on 15x7, +38mm offset and Yoko ES100's - slight cantilever design, and was just noticing yesterday when I was working on the front struts to mount the strut brace, that there is probably only about 4-5mm of clearance between the tire sidewall and the Racing Beat spring set that I have installed.
Actually concerned me for a moment until I realized that I've been driving on this combination for about 3-4 months now without even noticing it! |
wow, everyone seems to be really close. I was hoping to somehow have my next set of wheels tuck in behind the fender... like with a larger offset, but now I'm not sure it's gonna happen. I did modify my struts and coilover mounts by grinding them down for more clearance. I think I should be able to run up to a 45mm offset. Right now I have a lot of clearance on the strut side and plenty of room on the fender side, but thats with 15x6's. I want at least 16x7's. I am gonna be doing the racing beat front lowering kit, so I dont want the fronts sticking out. Here are some pics:

One of the outside...(don't mind the dirty wheels :D )

i have 17x7 with 42mm offset
|
16x7 40mm 205/45-16 ES100's
GC coil overs.. My tire edge is propbably 1/2" closer to the strut than what FD racer posted 2 posts up (my welded perch is lower, and the wheel slides abover the welded perch, and barely below the gold collar) yeah, it's tight.. I run a spacer to make life just a little easier (5mm) |
15x7 Borbet Cs, 205/50-15 Kumho V700s. Had to space out the fronts 5mm to clear the Prokits. Still rub on the sway bar, but so do the factory wheels/tires. :)

16x7 42mm offset with 205/45/16 Kumho 712's. Rubs only the sway bar on sharp U-turns. Also the more I look at my car the more it looks like they gave me a little positive camber when I got it alined.

WTF are those stick things with the gear at the end by your rear tire???
I have a good friend who uses the Toyota 14X8 Celica/Supra wheels with great success.. OR.. pretty much any wheel with a 3.5" backspacing. (.75" more with coil-overs instead of stock springs/perches.) (please no flaming or attempts to create an arguement over back-spacing/offset preference) |
Those stick things with the gears are what you call cam and cam gear. its my lil bro's. I started with rotary and will end with rotary. if you don't know, take a look at my thread under "project 6port turbo"

Hey do you got any more pics of your car? I'm thinking about repainting mine silver and removing the moulding as you did, thanks |
