SCCA ITA,ITS,Pro7
i've been looking in to getting in to some sort of race series and ive been looking in to ITS, ITA and was thinking of building a 1st gen, but from what ive heard 1st gens arent that competitive in those types of races? is this true?? does anyone have any info on this? i mean ive looked up quiet a bit of videos on youtube and they seem to be the most cars out there, but then again most of the videos are 2006 or older, or would it be better to just race a 2nd gen?? and i was also looking in to Pro-7 but i cant seem to find the GCR or anytype of rules for them the newest ive been able to find is 2003 which im sure is outdated correct? does this series not exist anymore? or do we just not have it over here in the west? thanks

I was under the impression they were TOO competitive for ITA so they got their own class, IT7. Maybe I'm mistaken?

hmmm well on the race tech fourm somebody was thinking of buying a used one and someone said they arent competitive becuz they run against crx and integras?? and over here in cali i dont think we got IT7 or atleast i cant find any events for it right now??

cause i have have downloaded the SCCA GCR 2008 and they are still allowed in ITA but it has to run a 12A and in ITS it has to run a 13B

I wonder if IT7 is still around. Haven't kept up with it since I started going to school. Use to get every grassroots motorsports magazine

Used to have a friend of a friend who ran a 7 in ITA (the friend ran an acid-dipped Rabbit in ITB).
He did pretty well, as I recall. |

Ismael First Gen RX7's are not competitive in ITA. This is why IT7 was created in some areas because it gets these cars on the track - there are allot of them around. I race in IT7 in SCCA MidDiv and really enjoy the class. Car counts go up and down - we have 4 in the Kansas City area, 4-5 out of StL and 1 each out of Iowa and Oklahoma. PRO-7 is not a Nationally recognized SCCA class. In fact I believe it was created by NASA and or was created at a divisional level and run at SCCA events. I think PRO-7 is strongest in CA. Another 1st Gen class was SPEC RX7 - SRX7 or SR7. This class seemed to be popular in TX, CO, CA, and in the SE part of the US. NASA dropped it's 1st gen RX7 classes and melded them into Performance Touring - PT. First Gen RX7's are very competitive in SCCA E Production (EP). The modification allowances are higher in Production so prep costs are higher. However either an IT and or a Production RX7 is fairly cheap to maintain. My first "racing" engine was 6 years old and had seen well over 100 track sessions before I killed it. EP Rotaries are good for 2-3 yrs between freshenings. Which is WAY better than any IT/Production car that has pistions. There are other SCCA classes where you can Club Race an RX7. For example, D Prepared (which will be renamed to Super Touring Under - STU in 2009) where you will be able to run all generations of RX7's starting next year - yrs 85 and later. Engines can be street ported, N/A or turbo with open induction systems - Renesis engine swaps allowed. The rules for this class are being updated for 09 so that weights will be used to control performance instead of intake restrictions. Hope this helps |
oh i see hmmm well yeah its cuz i saw that 1st gens were really competitive in e prod so i figured id build one for ita and later on down the road when i can afford it convert it to a e prod.. so maybe ill just stick to my second gen..but i got a problem with that becuz my fc was orignally automatic and i converted to manuel trans.. so the tranny mounts are different and i had to make a custom mount for it to work...is this going to break some sort of rule since it is modifed??...and whats the usual hp from an ITS second gen? what kind of mods can be done?? hmmm super touring sounds like it would be pretty fun, by the way thank u for ur help u are helpping me out alot
