sadly the truth is said

Well found out some bad sad news today....the transmission caused the clutch and pressure plate to die.....the clutch caused the flywheel to be ruined as well. I'm so bummed out right now. I don't have the money for the repairs. The clutch is not covered by the warrenty cause it was not a merchandise defect. The flywheel is most likely gone as told by the dude working on the car. Someone give me some helping words.... :(

TurboFB 12-13-04 10:04 PM

:(.........3 words....get a job. A job my friend....solves alllll your problems, hence...bling bling $$$

;) Good luck mang. From the mods I see listed up there...I don't see why you can't afford another one? The only mods I have on my car so far are MMO :D

YapaKanichi 12-13-04 10:16 PM

......yea.....I bought the car with most of that done...(hops in flame suit) the only thing I did was the tires, new fuel system, stereo, exhaust, and clutch. Dude I have a job, I live on my own and bills take all money. I had to get the money to get the tranny from mom and dad now I have to get this money for the clutch and flywheel from myself. I'm dying here guys. LOL Fundraiser to help Chris's Mazda.

TurboFB 12-13-04 10:33 PM

Oh, wow. I'm sorry mang. Didn't mean to hurt yer feeling's *pats his back* It'll all work out...:(

...I havn't driven my 7 since the day I bought it...i still go out to look at her though....brings me to tears to let her sit there...but the money is stackin' up ;)...soon my baby...soon *caresses the hood*

But anyway...really..good luck. I hope the best for you. And um...i'm kinda hell bent on getting my car to the turbo league...i'm still kind of in the newbie league...

Take care.'

Man I'm about to lol. For real man. unless someone has a flywheel thats unused and a clutch unused willing to give up lol. nah I'm kidding. Lets just hope for the best.

rxseven07 12-14-04 01:43 PM

dude if u could get everybody on the internet to donate a dollar, youd be a millionaire...i thought about it

vipernicus42 12-14-04 01:47 PM

That's the basis for SPAM emails. They figure if they can sell something worth five bucks to one out of every hundred spam e-mails they send, and they send out five million per day, every day, they can bring in a whack of cash.

Sorry to hear this man, but it looks like you're going to have to put the seven aside for a while. If you have another car use it, if not, then you'll have to bus it. Mine needs a steering system and bushings, so it's gonna patiently wait for weather and time requirements to match.

the tranny took out the clutch? unless the tranny locked up and you smoked the hell outta the clutch or the front seal leaked and contaminated the disc that's about impossible.

Ehron 12-14-04 03:07 PM

Used parts seem pretty cheap for first gens...

YapaKanichi 12-14-04 03:11 PM

Ok lets just say the tranny started messing up. First 3rd went, then 4th, then 3rd started to slip, then 4th started to slip, then 2nd started to slip, then first gear wouldn't do anything. I had to tach it out in 1st to even get the car remotely rolling. The pressure plate was pushed all the way in the guy told me. And that caused my flywheel to be hurt. He said the flywheel if he could get it resurfaced it would break the first time I yowmped it. SO i figure kill two birds with one stone. It's at his shop and I want it back I'm dying slowly you don't understand.

YapaKanichi 12-14-04 03:15 PM

yes lol everyone donate a dollar to me spread the word stylnrx7@yahoo.com lol nah I'm kidding email me if you want lol

numan2 12-14-04 07:08 PM

from what you described:

First 3rd went, then 4th, then 3rd started to slip, then 4th started to slip, then 2nd started to slip, then first gear wouldn't do anything. I had to tach it out in 1st to even get the car remotely rolling
those are symptoms of a slipping clutch the higher the gear the higher the load on the clutch is besides there's nothing to "slip" in a standard transmission now if you heard a hellatious bang then lost a gear that's another story. Or if your pilot bearing tore your input shaft up that would mean a tranny repair but for the gears sliding that's all on the clutch.

As for the flywheel "exploding" the flywheel on the rotary engine has ALOT of material for resurfacing and any flywheel may explode when subjected to extreme RPM. I have been in the transmission business for over 20 years and I've only had to replace flywheels on some of the ford superduty trucks and that's because they use a dual mass flywheel and the dampening springs break so the flywheel is actually bad. but if you insist on replacing it now is the time to go with a lightweight one and get it to rev quicker.

Sounds to me like you have a bad clutch, and the tranny is fine. A friend of mine fried a clutch in 6 months. When it was gone, he could redline it in first and go nowhere. He actually didn't make it up a bridge once. But it doesn't seem that your tranny is gone, rather the clutch is just gone. If its as bad as you say, the flywheel and pressure plate are probably scored by the rivets on the clutch disk pretty badly.

I don't know if a TII flywheel will work, but I have one from a blown engine. You can have it for a good price if you are willing to pay shipping and if it will work of course.

YapaKanichi 12-14-04 07:27 PM

no the flywheel was cracked from stress and wear. It was a thin lightweight steel flywheel. Just old and was driven on hard the guy said. But the transmission is gone I know that.

85rotarypower 12-14-04 07:38 PM

Are you absolutely sure?? Unless something seized up in the tranny, there is no way for it to wreck the clutch. I stand by what I said. A manual tranny doesn't just slip. There is no way for it to do that. The only thing that can slip in a manual drivetrain is the clutch. Everything inside the tranny is just gears.

gslse_in_vt 12-14-04 08:17 PM

numan2 hit it on the head. Your clutch burnt out. It sounds as if the previous owner (always blame the previous owner), may have adjusted the push rod on the clutch master cylinder (under dash). This can be dangerous. If you adjust it too far, you risk a worn out clutch plate (and rivets) making contact with the flywheel. When you kept driving it in that condition, you ground the rivets into the flywheel. That's why your flywheel is toast! Drain your tranny oil. Any metal chunks? If not I bet you'll be fine. Get a used flywheel and an inexpensive clutch to get you by. Save your cash until you can afford a good one to keep up with the modded motor.

Here's a cheap flywheel on eBay.

I believe it'll fit your N/A 13B. You may want to get a second opinion, though. Good luck!

Rotofire 12-14-04 09:51 PM

dude, that's the same thing that happend to me, just replaced the clutch and you're good to go! Do you trust the guy working on your car? Ask to physically see the flywheel and pressure plate, inspect them yourself. You gotta be careful with mechanics these days.

YapaKanichi 12-14-04 10:04 PM

I am brah. I'm going there before he puts anything on the car.

RotaryResurrection 12-14-04 10:23 PM

The 6 puck is what will tear up your flywheel, and eventually your trans itself (internally it will beak the countershaft input gear to do the stress transferred that an organic disc would normaly absorb, but the metal 6 puck passes straight into the trans instead). I should have a used SE flywheel in useable (not new) condition for $20 plus shipping. Also a good used clutch set (not new but 3/4 life left) with stock organic disc for $40 plus shipping. Your trans sounds like it is still okay.

YapaKanichi 12-14-04 10:43 PM

nah the guy is gonna put in a setup he uses in his race car that has lasted 20 races and is still strong. So I think I'll be ok. Thanks a lot thou. That flywheel wouldn't work. I have to have a 77 rx4 flywheel btw. He's gonna custom fab up one for me.

RotaryResurrection 12-14-04 11:53 PM

So you go from being poor, pitiful, and broke, to having the ability to pay a man to "custom fab" a flywheel for you?

I really have to question someone's ability to "fab" a flywheel up, given the load and rotational forces they see. You do know that this can cost you a good working set of feet, right?

BTW, an SE uses the same weight rotors as the rx-4 13b, so the flywheel should also be the same. I have no direct experience with pre-84 13b's but I can't understand how it could be different. See for yourself.

numan2 12-15-04 05:24 AM

you have to also factor for the front balance weight. if you notice the REPU had the same weight rotors as the RX4 BUT the front counterweight is different as is the flywheel. I know this because I tried a REPU flywheel on my 13B in my RX3 many years ago and it vibrated like a bitch then I looked at the weights and they were WAY diffefent.

85rotarypower 12-15-04 10:56 AM

You wanna pass up a deal for a good flywheel and a good clutch set for a "custom fab" flywheel and a clutch set that was in a race car??? Now to me, this sounds totally screwed up. Why the hell would you want a custom flywheel and a clutch that was in a race car for 20 races? First off, I have never heard of custom flywheels being made by anyone before, and I don't know if I would want a clutch that was flogged on in a race car in my car.
