S5 na 13b into my 85gsl

Ok I have my 1990 na 13b out of a gxl. I want to put it in my 85 gsl. It will be a carb motor. I have read a lot of info on whats needed to do the swap but the engine has no distributor so how do I run the ignition?
I think these engines put out like 160hp vs the 100 stock hp of my 12a so should be a major performance boost I would think!

Just use your 12a ignition. It'll work.

black82gsl 10-20-13 01:10 PM

So you can put a distributor into the s5? I have a msd direct fire ignition set up on my 12a already.

diabolical1 10-20-13 04:31 PM

it interchanges EXACTLY with the Gen II CAS.

black82gsl 10-20-13 05:07 PM

Cas?

Tui 10-20-13 05:10 PM

What is a CAS?

diabolical1 10-20-13 05:58 PM

Crank Angle Sensor

it relays crank angle information to the ECU for it to trigger ignition timing. it interchanges exactly with a distributor.

Thank you.

black82gsl 10-20-13 06:17 PM

So you just pull it out and drop in a a dizzy?

diabolical1 10-20-13 06:48 PM

well, of course you'd TDC the engine first, but yes. pretty much.

black82gsl 10-20-13 08:28 PM

Well that seems easy enough.
Any one know about what fly wheel and clutch set ups will work? I know I can use my stock tranny but I don't know if I can use my stock fly wheel and clutch? The engine I have came of a auto tranny so I need to get a flywheel and clutch if I can't use my stock one.

You need to use the front cover weight from the 13B donner engine. And an S5 flywheel.

OR you can use the auto rear counter weight and a lite weight aftermarket flywheel.

You can't use the 12A flywheel. It'll shake itself to death. ;)

black82gsl 10-20-13 09:20 PM

Ok. I think I will go after market light weight fly wheel. I have all winter to get this ready for spring.
Thinking the rb 600 holley/intake a rb header and the direct fire ignition off my 12a. Should move my fb very nicely.

WHY:wallbash:

black82gsl 10-21-13 12:49 PM

Cuz I don't have the wiring harness or computer. And just like less clutter with a carb.

cfamilyfix 10-21-13 04:47 PM

Poor wankel=...he has a thing about Holleys lol. If you must go carbed try to find a sidedraft like a dellorto 48dhla or a weber dcoe. Driveabilty with these carbs is achieved with less grief

wankel=awesome 10-21-13 05:34 PM

I was more aghast at the carb size selection than the make...

black82gsl 10-21-13 06:42 PM

Well nothing set in stone. But the 600 is what the rb set up comes with so I assumed it was correct?

You're putting this on a 13B? Then yeah a 600 will do fine.

I've got a street port 13B and the Edelbrock 600 keeps up with the engine (or the engine keeps up with the edlebrock). Fuel millage sucks though 15s in town.

black82gsl 10-21-13 09:10 PM

15 in town isn't horrible lol.

Qingdao 10-21-13 09:38 PM

15 lite driving. But if you stick your foot in it that number drops.

I just put some race slicks on my spare rims and did some foot to the floor driving this weekend... I coulda sworn I was watching the gauge drop in real time.

black82gsl 10-22-13 04:03 AM

Lol.
