RX7 dead...
My GF couldn't get the RX7 to start after work, so I drove up there to see what was going on. Turn the key, nothing. No lights, guages, etc. Car is completely dead. I tried jumpstarting, changing the battery, checked the fuses, everything looked good. Unfortunatley I didn't have a multimeter with me at the time. She said it worked fine this morning. It's a '85 GS. Any suggestions?

does anything electrical work? Have you checked your fuseable links?
|
yeah, I'd bet the main fusible link is toasted... Check those out, on the driver's side of the engine bay, right next to the battery...
|
Nothing electrical works. I'll check the fusable links tomorrow. How hard are they to replace? I didn't even know they were there... I usually work on toyota 4x4's...

Fusible links are little wire-like things covered in a colored plastic or woven material. they're just fuses. They're really easy to replace, just two female connectors. Yank it out, put a new one in its' place.
If that indeed was the problem, drive it home and then try to figure out what would've shorted it out... |

Are the fusable links a dealer item? or should I be able to pick them up anywhere (Kragen, Autozone, Napa, etc)?
I have a '86 and a '92. I just got done rebuilding the 22RE in the 92, added some goodies like bigger valves, a cam and header. |
OK, but does the battery have power ??? No meter, use some wire and arc the - & + .

OK, but does the battery have power ??? No meter, use some wire and arc the - & + . you need to know if the battery is dead, as in gone. no charge = new battery .

I tried the battery out of my truck, no go....
|
Maybe its the 234,000 miles that's wrong with it?
|
make sure you didn't ground the battary out by like maybe the starter wire from the battery being grounded or something similar to that. grounding out shit sux ass
|
If the rex fuseable links are like the 86 300z, you will have to salvage yard hop to find them.
|
IF the fusible link blew,...tear the covering off and twist the two ends back together.
Like that you still have a good working fusible link without having to actually replace it. :) |
Ok, I'll try that..
|
If something was grounding out, wouldn't the battery be dead?
|
Yes, and so would your truck battery. check the ground from the battery to the 'block' and check the connection from the battery to the starter. and was the battery in the car dead ? disconnect it from the car and test it .
|
Nope, wasn't dead...

Well, take your meter and on the fuse box inside the car test some of the circits, cig.lighter, etc. if no power there
that narrows it down between the firewall and the battery. You know what a fusable link looks like ,,right ? put the meter on the contacts at the fusable link to test. |
