rx-7 timing
 

I have seen it somewhere before, but i dont know how to review archived posts, so for the arrogant question I apoligize. Heres the issue.
To set the timing in a 13b first generation rx-7 with the distributer removed... align the yellow mark on the center pulley to the pin just below the a/c and power steering pump brackets on the block. With the distributer cap off and the rotor on..theres an arrow on one of the four ...whatever they are... arms? Branches?
whatever. Which direction does that arrow have to be while inserting the distributer with the block and distributer both in the top dead center position. Please help. Ty

For the dizzy I think there is a dot on the gear at the bottom of it. That dot should line up with a small ridge cast onto the dizzy body (at least on my T2 engine, your's should be similar). Then mark off where the cap inside the dizzy is located. Stab it back into the engine block and try to maintain the same position of your mark on the cap. And yea, the flywheel mark should be on the yellow mark.

To the firewall. Mine just has a little dimple and that should be on the flat side. You also want to watch the rotor go by (top and bottom plug leading) to make sure that it is sitting in between the two. But if youve got good marks on your pulley and its keyed you should be good.

I don't use the dots on the dizzy to line it up. I always heard there was a way, but it seemed too confusing to me. All I do is rotate the engine by hand (which turns the pulley clockwise) to the first timing mark. Then turn the dizzy rotor so the arrow is pointing to the L1 mark on the rotor cap. (Which is should be pointing almost directly to the rear of the car) After that just drop it in and set timing accordingly.
As a side note... You know, a lot of people say that there's 4 ways to put a 12a crank pulley on, but really if you mess up and forget how it goes, you got a 50/50 shot of getting it back right.
