rx-3 rear gears
has anyone used rx-3 ring&pinion out of 72 to 75 3.700...and are they stronger or weaker than the 1st gens......?
|
I havent seen or noticed anything bad with the RX-3 gears as well as the 1st gens 3.90. However, the GSL-SE gears are weak, i've seen them with missing teeth.
Now for the $1MM question: what are trying to accomplish? |
i am trying 2 get more topend.....because am running against vtec's.....am killing them in 1/8 mile street race....1/4 mile?????????????:dunno: i think i need little more uptop..i have 3.90 now.
|
i doubt they'll be much difference between the two. u want the lower gear when drag racing anyway. i personally have never done the 1/4 mile but at the end of it u might be nearing the top of 4th? ur not racing for top end, it's how quick u get out the hole and hold that lead. why do u think drag racers use gearing as high as 5.13?
|
higher than 5.13 but will require a ford 9"

There is a big difference between running at the track VS street racing. At the track, you need slicks, not street tires |
i rarely go to the track...last time ran . i was at red line in fourth gear before the end of my run. with 4.80 al haft to go in to fifth gear.some thing iz not right.i am going to swap tranmission..because the one i have in my car i bought it from a road racer. may be different gear inside.

What transmission do you have in there..??? For instance, if you have a 12A trans, switching to a 2nd gen TurboII trans could help out top end. There's a chart I think at Mazdatrix that lays out all the stock gearings in comparison.

What's up Joe..? That's what I'm doing tooo... I have about 5 n/a transmissions. I want to break them all before I put the TurboII back in. If you want to try anyone I have come pick it up.

Changing your overall tire diameter will have the same effect as changing your gears too. Keep that in mind before trying a more expensive option.
I would think 3.70 gears from a RX-7 would probably have thicker (beefier) gears. than a GSL-SE. |

Ease into getting on it off the line instead of dumping clutches at 7K+ Drag radials will def help hook and book :) and the stock stuff will hold up.
