A FWD rotary is definetly an interesting idea but it probably has its flaws especially when using those crazy Russian spinning triangles. At least this thread was worth a laugh

I wonder which design is better:
1) Mazda's design where there are two continuous o-rings on the combustion chamber side as well as the outside of the water jacket.

2) Mother Russia's design where there is a combsution side o-ring but the water channel and oil drains are all separate o-rings. I wonder if it seals better and it it has better water flow?

I bet the low mileage expected of these engines is the substandard allows they're using. They should do what they did when the British let the Russians visit their jet engine factory and the Russians had shoes that picked up all the shavings for later analysis.

Speaking of FWD rotaries, I saw a Civic a few years ago on Youtube with a 12A. I think he did a custom bellhousing adaptor. Not really my cup of tea,but the execution was decent. Now put that in an old Mini or a first gen MR2 and were talking!

If you could get the Germans to build it, it would run like a watch... and have 4x as many parts as it really needed, and would cost $3,000,000 each. :lol:

you should check out NSU's rotor housings, instead of using a front to back coolant flow like mazda, which ends up heavily O ringed, they use axial flow, so the coolant comes in around the spark plug, and goes around the rotor housing. this means that there are no water seals, and because its a PP, the irons are almost thin flat pieces of iron.

don't get excited though, the NSU engines didn't last very long either....
