Royal Purple ?
I know there has been many discussions on oil here, with many different opinions. I was thinking about using Royal Purple on my next oil change and wondered if anyone here has used it successfully. I checked their site (I know its their site and they are trying to sell a product) and it states its approved for Rotary engines. Any comments/suggestions???
Thanks |
it' expensive lol.....but its proven to be way better than regular oil
|
Yea, it is expensive, thats why Im asking if its worth it and if anyone has developed any leaks after using it or had any other problems.
|
I use it religiously... Oil, gear lube, trans lube, etc.. I do get it at a 25% discount, so it does help the price.
Seems to be good stuff. I am going to swap to dino oil in my 1980 because the oil seals are shot and she uses too much oil,,,,, |

I buy the oil at like $90 for 5 gallons...
So that breaks down to $4.50 a quart... |
I've been running royal purple in every car I've owned since 1999. And I have owned only rotaries since 2001. Buy it. Its worth the piece of mine to spend the extra 20 on an oil change.
|
i would use it but i need to replace one of my crush washers on one of oil lines cause its leaking oil...last thing i want to see is $40 worth of oil on the ground

I would prefer Mobile 1. I have seen royal purple come out of a few cars and there was medal shavings and in one car a certain build up that had little chunks. I have used Mobile 1 forever and seen boosted cars make it past the 250,000 mile mark. Never experienced royal purple with a rotary though only DSM's and such.

I have used RP in rotaries. Great stuff. I got 28mpg highway on my drive up to school with RP in the sump at 78mph. I averaged 23mpg on the highway with conventional 20w50. Same drive. Similar weather (temp., humidity), same speed (78mph). It's good stuff. |
were you using 20w-50 rp?

Is that the correct weight for a rotary, 20w-50? I think Im using 10w-30.
|
Seems like the majority of us are using 20W-50...
Cooler climates can get by with 10w-30 or 10w-40 as long as oil consumption is still OK.. |
I'm in the mountains of NC and winter is coming so I better go with the 10w or 5w. I think I may give it a try and hope for no leaks.

Exclusively use Royal Purple in the REPU engine, trans, diff.

Question for those of you who use Royal Purple, what type do you use in your LSD rear ends?

I also use RP. Interesting story as well: Last year I went to ZOOM FEST. For those of you who do not know what that is (Shame on you!) it is a Mazda meet in the middle of summer at Road Atlanta, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kARKG...eature=related . Anyways, last year it had to be 120* on the track, easy. No wind, just dead heat. I had RP in the whole car and when doing the "Parade laps" (which ended up being VERY spirited driving on the track), my oil temp was hanging around 175*. This was without an undertray. Flash forward to this year. I was getting ready to go down to ZOOM FEST again. Money was short and I sprung for some Mobil 1 oil in the engine. It was a lot cooler this year, with some wind involved. The parade laps were slower and I never really got over 70ish. Oil temps? 180*. That was enough to make me switch back. I wasn't pushing the car near as hard as last year and the RP seemed to cool off faster than the Mobil 1 did. Not bashing Mobil 1 or anything, but my baby got RP when she came back home :) |
