Rough idle

1st time posting. '85 gs auto suddenly began idling rough. When the a/c is turned on and the solenoid kicks in or you give it a little gas it smooths right out. No power loss at high rpm. Changing plugs, cap, rotor no help. Cold starts as usual with the choke on. Come to think of it this may not be new. With colder weather we have just turned off the a/c where it was always on in the spring/summer. We found a mouse nest under the air cleaner housing. Maybe it chewed through a vacuum line or something. Hoses all appear to be OK but so many more than the RX-3's I had in the past. Appreciate any help/advice. Anyone know of a good shop in south central PA or western MD (near Hagerstown). The car is all stock, 80K and hasn't given us any problems until this. Local Mazda dealer not much help.

Thanks,

Ed

Ed,
For the list of shops post a new thread in your specific region section.

As far as the rough idle. Standard procedure is to check for vacuum leaks.
Also check to make sure the shutter valve is not leaking.
Do a search with the term shutter valve on information on this.
You stated that there is no power loss at higher RPM. Is there a noticeable power loss from take off?

Thanks for the info. I've never used a BBS before. Found info on my region. I'm going to go back over all the vacuum tubing tomorrow.

Ed
