Rotorhead.ca dash kit in!

Finally after letting it sit on my computer as an ornament for months.. with some tweaking its now installed. Thanks to Manntis for making it so I didnt have to fab one myself, and Mark Perez who helped strip the black anodize off the Team Voodoo shifter ball and brake lever handle, with some polishing.. they now compliment each other, sprucing up the interior

Is this the cup-holder kit? Howcum no pics of it extended??

Northern 7 06-12-03 10:21 PM

Can you elaborate on "Tweeking"? I had some difficulty getting that kit to fit. It's now in but it doesn't look quite right - the face plate is not flush with the stock bezel (sticks out about a 1/4"). What kind of modifing did you have to do? thanks

Its supposed to go behind the plastic center console. I pretty much destroyed mine trying to get it to fit perfectly. Its not Manntis's fault, party mine and partly the car's.

It never fit quite right in the first place, i think the center console is bent, and then after that i tried to bend it to get it to fit, and its now disfigured too much for my liking.

I'm going to buy the next set, only w/ the 3 gauges instead of cubby hole.

I have a question.. my dash kit has been sitting around to.. its the cubbyhole won... i havew no clue how to put it together.. does anyone have pics on how to put it together?

Ok, where did you get the E-Brake boot, and E-Brake handle? I already know of the shift knob I want (billet polished aluminum), and I was thinking of the RotorHead.ca shift boot, but I wanted an E-Brake handle, possibly button, and boot to match. So, if you could let mw know where you got those, I would much appreciate it. Thanks :).

EDIT: I just realized they look a lot like the boots and stuff from BSP for the Miata that my friend has... Am I right? If so, Ill just buy the ones he has from BSP so the boots both match, and then Ill just hope the shift knob matches the handle and button, lol

In order for the holder to fit properly...the tweaking I did was mostly to the angles that came supplied with the kit. First with a Dremel I slotted them and cut off the ends so the entire kit would slide right on in and match the original screw holes better. Next I riveted them in 1/2" and not 3/4" for a deeper fit, not interfering with the center console. The stereo head unit is in there securely and the cupholder held my coffee quite well :)
T.J. the shifter knob, brake handle and leather boots are from Team Voodoo... www.teamvoodoo.com
I was told that they were one-offs for the 1st gen by Bob himself and I was fortunate enough to acquire them.

one of a kind? well shit, that sucks.

Hey manntis, you should think about making something like that for rotorhead.ca.

I'd buy one of them!

timmya2 06-18-03 01:46 AM

is that dash from a second gen?

Manntis 06-18-03 03:52 AM

no, that's an 84-85 1st gen (North American) RX-7 dash

MarkPerez 06-18-03 04:07 AM

And a GSL-SE to boot,,, looks good Mel.
I think they want to see the cup holder extended.
