Rotor Markings

Looking at my rotors after cleaning them, I noticed some markings that I can't figure out. They are not of the ones that indicate the side seal stuff. They are on the outside of the rotor. What do they mean?

One rotor has a 5, the other a 1.

And then there are 2 similar marks, on each rotor, that look like something broke off, however there was nothing broken and these are the only evidence of any damage on both the rotors and the housings.

I was looking closely at a few rotors today and mine have a few #'s just like yours do on the faces. Mine also have a few illegiable markings (just as yours do) that are either half assed stamped #'s, letters, or japaneese writting...?? They are the same depth and size as the legiable #5 (purposely put there by mazda) so I doubt they are cause for concern. Just my opinion.

Thanks, I am going to assume that they are ok to use again. But if anyone knows what they mean, I would like to know.

Most likely its from the factory. The factory I work at there are markings to test the water side, air side, who welded which parts on, etc. I am sure this is similar.

Yea I was thinking the same thing. They had to be making a boat load of them so some type of quality control prob had to be done during the process.

Where are the markings supposed to be for what letter / weight rotor it is..???

It is my understanding that there are 3 types of markings on the side of the rotors:
-An English letter indicating the rotor weight
-A Japanese symbol for the side seal length
-A English number to indicate the side seal location

Correct me if I am wrong, see picture.

saaaayyyyyyyyyyyy whaaaaaaaaaaaaat????? ain't no arabic. that's martian. everyone knows the rotary engine was conceived on mars when godzilla procreated with mechagodzilla and the egg hatched just as a solar flare happened, causing the wankel engine to be born. the rotors came from saturn's rings being shaved down by neil patrick harris' voice from glee.

Do you know what the number corresponds to? And that symbol on the above rotor doesn't look like any arabic number...

And do you know what the 1 and 5 mean on the outside of the rotor?
