Rookie Needs Carb Rebld. Tips

I am going to be rebuilding the gasket section my carb today, and I have never done this before. The carb is a stock nikki on a stock 84 12A. So if anyone has a helpful hint or two for me it would be much appreciated. Hopefully I'm posting this early enough to a few responses before I get started.

THANKS!

Take all jets out one at a time :) Sprya carb cleaner through them, use something small like a toothpick to clean them, spray with compressed air, put it right back in. Repeat till you do them all :)

Watch the float assy and try not to misalign it...

Assembly is reverse of disassembly :)
Got a haynes manual? It doesnt go into detail on a 84, but show an earlier version which is similar..

Yeah I have a Haynes, even though it's for an earlier model, is the carb basicly the same? If not, could you tell me where the major differences are, and what I should look out for?

No more help huh? Well I guess I'm off to my friend's shop, we'll see what happens.

Nothing major really. Take you r time and take pics if you have a digital camera. It might nelp if you get stuck.

Oh 2 things, in the middle of the carb, where the accel pump nozzle is, theres a brass weight and a little tiny check ball, dont lose them, also in the accel pump well there is another weight and ball. Your kit should come with new balls, replace them if it does. Get everything SQUEAKY CLEAN. pretend your operating on your dog.

The major differences are on the outside of the carb... The basic principle is the same..
