Roll on paint job
Finaly decided to try roll on rust-oleum enamel paint going to go all white removing the trim and only painting the window trim black.!
Tomarow starts body work Bought all the stuff today High foam rollers Sand paper up to grit 2000 News paper 3 m tape Gloss white rust oleum enamel paint Mineral spirits Turtle wax and polish Micro fiber towels Body filler High foam paint brush Still need a buffer but thats the last step :( Will post pics of all the body work tomarow will be a lot .!!! Have to fix two fenders sand the whole car down and tape it all up going to start with 150 grit on the car for prep! Thanks shane !:) |
Hope it turns out ok... Ive done Rustoleum through a gun and it fades FAST. It gets soft in the sun and turns foggy if not waxed weekly. Id recommend a nice polymer synthetic wax like Turtle Wax ICE as the caranuba types seem to cloud it up.

Have. You ever rolled it on? I was gonna wax it monthly but if. I gota so it weekly to keep the fresh look then i guess thatsbwhat im up for . Only thing. I'm scared of is wet sanding . I have neer wet sanded before so :(((

Ive done a rustoleum rattle can paint job on my FB beater. Honestly its no where near as tough as an actual 2k paint job. Its a soft paint that gets scratched and dirty easily. Nothing a little rubbing compound and wax cant handle. I only used 'protective enamel', no clear coat. It looked really good for being out of a can, and was really cheap to do. something like $70 for primer and paint.
Pic while still wet. http://imageshack.us/a/img838/4611/cez3.jpg |
plastidip... cost the same dont have to wax and it doesnt fade. and it just peels off after. why anyone would do rustoleum after plastidip was invented i have no clue. good luck and would like to see the results. but to me to go through all that prep... it cost nothing to spray a car... you may as well put a 200 maaco spray on it and take care of it.. by the time you wax the shit out of rustoleum every week but thats just my opinion.

ok well did a shit ton of prep work realy sucks.... terribley lol took 2 days and I used so much sand paper. basiclhy got to metal after using air craft stripper and it only working half the time and making the biggest mess.... painting the first coats tomarow morning . I hope wet sanding will be easyier. well I was going to do plasti dip honestly but was a little scared I spent also about 100 plus now on this job cause of sand paper and waste on stripper... so if this doesn't turn out good at all I will dip it next pay... im going to do about 10 coats. maybe 12 if it doesn't look good. :[ wish me luck on painting tomarow!

i realized i could of got it sprayed cheap and with all the prep lol i hope this turns out good to!! like i said plasti dip will be my saveur !
|
plus there was so many options after seeing the fourms on roll on i hoped on the idea of it and i love the learning experience

Just buy a $100 air compressor and $50 spray gun. Go to NAPA and have them mix 1/2 gallon of single stage paint and spray it. Youll regret wasting money on the roll on honestly. So much work and very lack luster results.

Did the roll one job years ago after extensive research. Ended up using a polyurethane based boat paint, which was a great color and really tough. It even did well against a F-150, RIP Cookie Monster. A special chemical was used to help it self level. The results were good, not great. It went on VERY smooth on some parts, and orange peeled on others. It didn't help the results that I was doing all the work while recovering from a major surgery. I chose the roll on route due to no resources for spraying, I like trying different things, and I was trying to do it for cheap. That being said, it requires WAY too much sanding, costs way more than you expect, and spraying yields better results. |
Well started the first coat came out good and whole doing the second coat it started to rain so i covered it and got bugs and dirt in the paint not a lot but a little im going to wet sand it and hope it turns out good ! If this turns out bad idk what im going to do ....
