Resistance Is Futile
Where are the turn signal resitors located on an SE? My right signal started doing the machine-gun-stuccato-rapid-blinkety-blink-blink.

On my 81 that was always caused by a bad turn signal bulb. Buy a pair at the auto parts store and start replacing until its fixed

I #@%#^%@^ hope not, I just replaced 'em a month ago. :)

Super fast turn signals usually means one is burnt out.

usually, but I've checked 'em and they all light up, which usually means a burnt resistor.

It sounds like the flasher CPU has gone bad. It's located under the dash, up behind the fuse block. I've scanned the relevent portion of the diagram. You'll be able to locate it by the wire codes.
Never having opened one, I don't know if the Timer within the CPU is a chip or not, but I suspect it's just a simple circuit of capacitors and resistors. If you are familiar with soldering, you may be able to repair it. -John. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1003469 |
I've had that thing in and out a number of times. The flasher unit is right in the center. It's got a plastic casing surrounding it, with a lid that you can flip-open.

is it a simple plug in resistor? A VAG (Volswagen/Audi Gruppen) resistor just pops out and snaps in, available in most auto parts stores...
|
I believe it's permanently mounted. There's a relay for the wipers that can be removed, but I don't think the flasher module comes out without doing some "un-soldering". :)

Out of curiosity, and assuming it was a separate unit the size of a relay, I was going to pull mine ('84 SE) and see what's inside. But the CPU shown in the diagram is not a separate unit just for the flasher it's the main CPU, a relatively large box mounted above and behind the fuse box. The x-11 connector in the diagram above has 17 pins. (I had wondered why they would call a flasher unit a "CPU".) It's going to be a pain to remove and I doubt you will find a plug-in resistor inside, but if all of the bulbs light up I don't know where else your problem could be. -John. |
