Replacing shift boot & antenna

My shift boot it just attatched at the knob and dangling around the shifter..not attatched at all at the bottom.
My question is how does it attatch at the bottom? Is something broke or do I just need to reattach it somehow?

I was going to take the shift cover off so I could look but I don't know if you just pull the plastic up or there is something else to do first, I didn't want to crack the plastic and pay $60 for a replacement..

Also has anyone ever bought the $10 antenna mast replacement from Victoria British? It's telescopic so I can push it down just like a electric antenna when not in use, but I was wonder how easy it is to replace, and how the new Victoria British antenna is.

The bezel is easy to get off - push it forward a little & lift off. Unscrew the shift nob, unscrew the boot, it'll all come off. Mine wasn't attached, either - I used superglue. :D

I bought one of the generic, black rubberish antennas from Kragen, it works just fine. Was easy to replace. Don't know about the VB ones, tho.

Victoria British sells those black rubber ones as well, but I like the idea of being able to push it down out of site when I'm not using it..I don't listen to the radio that much, but for $10, I thought I may has well get one.

Mines faded in addition to being pulled out, so I thought about buying one off Ebay, but then it'd be black leather and wouldn't match...Think I should glue the faded one back in, or buy a new one and it be black, while the rest of my interior is burgandy.

I've got red interior also...removed my shift boot because it was so grimy...it's GREEN from the grime. Eww. It's supposed to be bergundy also.

I removed it, it's soaking in dishsoapy water. But the boot underneath is broken apart, heat comes up through the hole. No big deal...probably be the last thing I replace.

My shift boot has that green/brown nasty color too..thats why I want to replace it. BTW if you want to buy that rubber shifter boot Victoria British sells it for $35...but if it doesn't hurt anything, why fix it.

man you can use a nice what looks lik leather of of any civic yes i know a civic but it looks fikin way better than the stupid rubber boot and where all the black tips are on thebottom of the console poke holes in the new boot and put clips on tips if that dont work some relly good spray adhesive it works fukin perfecy and looks sweet thats how i fixed it it only cost about 10 for everything. ohh yeah while your down there check the outer rubber boot that goes around the shifter if it is cracked take that off of the civic too it too works fukin sweet.

I'd rather clean mine. Not gonna be anyone else riding in my car anyhow- passenger side door won't open!

The black boot under the outer trim-matching color boot is busted up on mine, letting heat into the car. It's already 80+ outside, my A/C doesn't work, windows don't roll down but 1/4 of the way, and sunroof doesn't open. I wanna keep as much heat out as possible!

Hadoken 04-02-04 09:36 AM

LMAO Ill, my windows barely work (have to push them back up with your hand), and my A/C needs coolant, but atleast my sunroof works. I've already decided I either have to get the A/C OR the windows fixed before summer..

Actually instead of taking it from a Civic, I found a place that sells them already made for 79-85 RX7..they sell a synthetic black leather one on Ebay for $10, or through their website I can get a synthetic black with red stitching for $24.99..Think that would look ok in the car?

Thats what it would look like..

I realized today that since my handle is broken...I can just remove the sunroof! Just lift up and remove. Toss in passenger seat, reinstall when I get to work. Think I'll try it today. Gotta remember to bring a comb though.

dude people are selling the boots on ebay

Hadoken 04-02-04 11:04 AM

Dude...read my last post... I found one on ebay for $10, or one with red stitching for $25 through their stores.

I took off my shifter cover and the plastic holders on the underneath are broke...So it's either glue, or a new shift cover...

But when I took my shifter cover off, there were some wires wrapped in black tape down there...Anyone know what these go to..? They weren't hooked to anything at the moment..

YapaKanichi 04-02-04 12:07 PM

no no no the stock boot

I don't know 10 bucks for a boot seems kinda expensive. I'd rather just hunt around in a junkyard or something and pay a couple of bucks or even just get it for free.

Fuel524 04-02-04 09:50 PM

yes but you can also get while at yard from civic the outer shift boot the is pbly cracked the one letting in heat it fits perfect no rigging nothing the one in VB catalog is 34$ that and the shift boot for 10$ i would think i just stuck it in my tool bag and paid for something else but i could show i pic once i get my doors done i am reapolsering them with matching black pleather. just have to put them in.

Ludicrous 04-02-04 10:55 PM

Damn... when I was at PnP last weekend, there were a shitload of red interiors... wish I woulda known people needed stuff.
