Putting it into the car won't be a huge deal. Getting it to work properly is a whole other thing...
I like the idea of doing such a swap, but can't see the point if you're looking at it from a more logic point of view. The renesis engine has't got any more power then a TII but it'll be much more complicated and expensive.
And as stated earlier: using only the bare block is pointless, as it's hardly different.
If you have the money and the will to do this go for it and we will all support you and enjoy the progress :D But if you need a quick way of gaining power: TII or even REW is going to be much cheaper and easier.

Umm you do realize the 6speed North American FEs put 237hp to the ground and the JDM ones 247? This is according to wikipedia.

That is NA, 6-ported with 2 stage induction.

AHAHAHAHAHA wikipedia. clearly the most reliable source of information on the planet. While it wouldn't surprise me if there was in fact that 10HP difference (as many JDM cars do have more HP than USDM spec), come on man. Wikipedia?

Whooooh hilarrrrrious. Hold on ill do some real research.

EDIT:

Mazda Canada: Two versions of the RENESIS® rotary engine provide 212 hp or 232 hp
6-speed manual transmission.
Optional 6-speed Sport mode automatic transmission with steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
Aluminum independent double wishbone front suspension with strut tower bar; rear multi-link suspension.
Front and rear stabilizer bars.
Standard Smart keyless entry system with push button and panic alarm
I was 5hp off...funny now?

Yea still funny. Wikipedia. AHAHAHA. Try citing that on a thesis/assignment/term paper or anything for that matter. See how your marks/evaluations end up.

And what is your source for the JDM models? All I see are canadian/USDM spec values.

PercentSevenC 09-16-08 12:21 AM

Yeah, but that's in Mazda horsepower. 232 MHP seems to equal around 180 WHP, according to the RX-8 owners. Pretty good, but nothing a streetported S5 motor couldn't deliver for much less hassle and money.

PP. If your gonna have all your engine n shit out, you know you want to.

Grow up seriously. I took the info from Mazda Canada's site and its right. My ex-boss owned a very reputable Mazda shop in Toronto says Its around 232 and I've driven a few of them and it def doesn't feel like 180. I don't have anything to prove to you, get a life.

It does feels like 180, maybe the high redline is fooling you? Have you driven other car that has more than 230 hp at the flywheel?

Just found the stock dyno thread on RX8club

If that's what you choose to believe, go ahead. Dyno sheets don't lie. The guys on rx8club aren't making that even with intake and exhaust mods.

1234rotor 09-16-08 03:34 PM

Yes, most all RX-8 dynos fall in the 180 range. Upper 180's is actually very well for a stock RX-8. Can we end debate now???
