Removing Catalytic converter

Does any one know if the engine will run fine with out the Pre Monolith converter 1 and 2 and the catalytic converter.

I am having a Power problem (No Power after 4000 RPM , engine stalls) and I am thinking that the cats are pluged (Very old Cats). I want to remove the cats and put a pice of strait pipe in its place. Note if I remove the cats should I just plug the air line that goes to the cat?

If you are taking off the cats you might as well take off the air pump too and block off the spot that it leaves behind with an aluminum plate. As a matter of fact while you're at it, you might as well just do the whole rats nest removal. You sure as heck aren't going to be passing emissions with a straight pipe, which makes me think you don't need to keep any of the emissions equipment at all.

Do a search for "Rats nest" and you'll find everything you need to know about removing the emissions equipment.

I think Maguyver just wants to take out the cats to see if this is the cause of his stalling problem because they are plugged, may not be ready for the full castration and sex change operation.

Sure you won't have any problem just putting in a pipe, it will be a bit noisy but fine for test runs or if you live in a red neck small town like I do, where loud exhausts are pretty much normal.

If you can get by without the cats you can get a cat replacement pipe from bonez which is actually a presilencer that is an exact replacement for the three cats, comes with gaskets and bolts and pops in in about an hour. This is what I have done and it gives a good power boost, better gas mileage and a real nice low rumbling sound. (And is a whole lot cheaper than a full RB header/exhaust installation, sounds better too).

Even if you need the cats for inspection you can put them in to go get the sticker, then swap in the bonez presilencer latter on.

Ditto on what Ray said.

Thanks guys, I live in canada the car has passed all it road test and because of its age it does not need a emissions test. I have a MindTrain exhaust (Better and Stronger that a RB system) and I really think the cats are pluged. I am going to give it a try and I will let you know.

I will stop at the whole Rats nest removal (sex change) thing because if I want to sell the car I will need the emissions stuff. I will just plug it up, hell that is what my wife did
