Removal of alarm system

I was reading this thread and I just had to share this: I completely removed the alarm system on my series 2 on the weekend - I found the alarm installation monkeys had wired in an identical battery to the one in the OPs photo in that thread, also using speaker wire. The battery was just sitting loose behind the rear hatch trim. Speaker wire went to the right side of the car, under the wheel arch trim, down the side of the seats and under the carpet to the alarm wiring harness sitting under the dash.

I'd say the battery the OP found in that case was part of the alarm system. Amazing that on different sides of the earth that these monkeys decided to use speaker wire to hook up to an identical battery in the same location.

The annoying thing about the alarm is that it only took one wire - the one going from the ignition switch to the ignition coil via the alarm box - to be cut and rejoined to bypass the alarm - the rest of the alarm system is completely redundant.

Here is a picture of the crap I removed, including the same battery as the OP. The three black boxes were zip-tied up under the dash, the keypad was glued to the centre console trim (after they drilled a hole through it for the stupid control wire). The siren was hidden in the windscreen wiper cavity and the level/vibration detector thingo was screwed onto the wheel arch in the engine bay.

It was very satisfying to remove all that crap - it didn't work properly anyway.
