Recommend a Good Muffler?

Im putting in my order with Racing Beat today for my new exhaust for my 12A. After much research, I've decided to order the RB header and pre-silencer. The only problem is that I really don't like the look of the dual tip muffler that comes from RB.

I've spent hours looking through previous posts on this forum, and google, still haven't found the right muffler. I'd like to find a single can with at least a 3 inch outlet. Any suggestions? I dont mind if its a little loud.

check out burnsstainless.com , I am using there 3" 2 stage muffler on my racecar, you will need a presilencer for street use . It is designed to be repacked easily.

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the magnaflow, but the burnstainless exhaust is almost the exact style im looking for. How loud is the stage 2? If I am running the racing beat pre-silencer, im I gonna get pulled over by the cops? I like loud, just not obnoxious.

look at Hushpower... I use one on my rx3 with RB pre silencer... sounds nice to me and looks great with the dump tip

I've had an RB muffler on the car for over a decade; still sound as a pound. The dual-tip look is close to the OEM muffler, but it sounds far better.

The problem with the RB muffler for those of us who live in the rust zone and I suspect Pittsburgh is as bad as Toronto is that it the curved pipe that rises over the axle to the muffler rusts very easily. I never drove my car in the winter and it still rusted out in about four years. Toronto is very humid and damp in the winter.

very true that pittsburgh is a rust zone, however I dont plan on driving in bad weather, this is my sunny day weekend car. The only reason I dont like the RB muffler is for the way it looks. I know it is good quality, and I can respect the original styling of the dual-tip.

I've just always been a fan of the single tip wide-open mufflers. Also, if I'm gonna spend $1K on my exhaust, I dont want it to look stock.

I don't know how loud the car if with a presilencer, I am using it on my racecar without a presilencer and the car is loud about 95-98 db.

The system I just replaced was RB header and presilencer, a 2" Magnapack, and a 2 1/2" borla pro XS. It sounded perfect. Better than my now RB long primary with borla muffler. The two presilencers really mellow out the metallic sound.

THat system cost about 400. The RB components were used, the Magnaflow and Borla prices 170 on Amazon. 100 bucks to the muffler shop.

"Rust?" What's that?

zerozoku 10-24-14 06:46 PM

how about this one? Anyone tried these? Looks to be exactly what I'm looking for, and is a "straight through" design, very nice.

Sure doesn't look stock. Go for it!

What about the universal RB muffler with a dumpy tip? I thought about adapting a FC REV2 muffler. They sound much better than the Power Pulse series.

Siraniko 10-25-14 11:10 PM

Universal is good but loud different tone from magnaflow or borla

mntech 10-28-14 11:40 PM

Mine came with the pacesetter muffler. I know pacesetter isnt the best brand. But I never thought of changing it and I personally like the sound a lot from not having anything to compare it to.

NCross 10-29-14 08:14 AM

I had a Pacesetter on mine for about 2 weeks and it was metallic and buzzy. I think anyway. Although not as good as Racing Beat or Magnaflow they are better than 30+ year old stock units or replacement stock units. I had a problem with it hitting the body on the over the axle area causing a nasty rattle.
