Is it rebuildable?

Buddy of mind killed his 12a in his drift car but wasn't sure why it stopped and wouldn't start. Im thinking he blew a coolant seal? Im wondering if I should put the money into rebuilding it (was thinking a soft seal rebuild and new corner seals). Also trying to figure out a good way to clean the inside of the housing, cant seem to find a local ultrasonic cleaner thats big enough :(

it looks rebuildable from those pics... that rotor bearing looks odd though

When you say "clean the inside of the housing", are you referring to the coolant passages?

If so, I've had good luck with the dishwasher (as soon as the wife is out of the house so she doesn't know).

New bearings are on the "what to buy" list.
Maybe Ill go downstairs and spray the housings down best I can and see how well that does.
I figure the aluminum housings cant be hot bathed but what about the the end and center plates?

Elwood, the things my GF comes home to already is bad enough but I might try that! She wasnt very impressed when our apartment reaked of oil from the 12a sitting on the coffee table xD

If that bearing spun then get another rotor. It will never hold a bearing correctly again. Let me know if you need one, I have plenty.

It definitely needs new apex seals, those look short.

Oil was dirty holy shit. Looks like a solid 12A core though!

K-Nives 01-29-14 12:36 AM

Im assuming it did to be honest. It fell right out when I pulled the rotor from the motor while the other is still in there. (its my first time taking apart one of these lol)

Im really hoping I dont need new Apex Seals, without me having to look would you know how tall they should be?

Oil was disgusting, chunky as all hell and I think some metal flakes in there which is why I was worried.

you should look in the FSM, Foxed.ca and measure everything

I didn't actually inspect the apex's in daylight but realized that the tip of one of them is dull :(
Had completely forgot about the Foxed site! Had the FSM on my old PC.
