rebuild questions
hi, i installed my inner oil ring springs backwards and need to tear down my engine to flip them over. what can i reuse and what do i need to buy new? I know for sure i need to replace the water seals, but should i replace the springs? front cover and manifold gaskets? what about the front and rear main seals? 750 miles on the motor. link to my previous thread https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generati...break-1090658/

If it is not smoking I would not pull it apart It cant do any damage to motor and should be all right for a long time

it does smoke a llittle when its warm and eat oil, a good amount. pretty sure a tear down is required.

If it was me, I'd get the felpro gasket set (which comes with a front cover gasket and water seals), and use what it has. I think it comes with a front and rear main seal. If you've got the engine torn down anyway just throw new ones in it. Why not?
EDIT: as for the springs. I would flip them back around if they were new 750 miles ago. If they were re-used springs I'd get new ones. Its possible that they were failed anyways. |
^^^^^^ what he said also replace the oil control ring inserts. If the spring was on backwards that means that the ring itself may have had a chance to spin inside of the rotor . If left alone eventually your going to chew thru the OCR ,OCR spring and Insert .

well im hoping i didnt chew through the notch on OCR yet, im pretty sure its spinning around in its groove, those pieces are pricey. i already have a set of viton inserts from atkins, springs are new and hopefully not damaged but a set is only 50 dollars so it wouldnt hurt too much to have to replace those. felpro gasket kit sounds like a good idea, are the water seals OEM quality? might as well replace every soft seal i can while its out. i was just wondering what was reusable because im already on a tight budget.
