Rebuild on Nikki Carb YaH! or NaY :(

Ok I was thinking about Rebuilding the factory carb relacing all the vac lines... how hard is the Nikki to rebuild and is it worth the time?

I think Sterling will rebuild it for around $200. That would be your best bet.

there's a good writeup in the archive on how to do it. I'd do it myself, but i'm just gonna send the whole thing to sterling so he can juice it up a little.

well, it depends. i've rebuilt a few now and it's honestly not that bad... but then again i strip them down like the banana carbs. no choke, emissions, nothing. basic four barrells and the goodness inside LOL! if you are handy it shouldnt be too bad, but it's alllll in the prepping and how you take it apart. dont pull things off and just place them wherever. get a nice open work bench or whatever and lay down a nice white towel (what i do) or something bright so you dont lose shit. take pictures if you need to as you are taking it apart. have your rebuild kit organized and take notice of what matches up. get it all apart and clean the fuggin hell out of it. it's intimidating (sp?) but really nothing short of hours of zoning out :p:

or you could just get a nice sterling carb :D

I'm getting a sterling. I'll put it in my DD and see if I can pass CA smog.

I just did a rebuild and rats nest removal. Scale of one to ten i give it a seven. Look for a thread from "littlecat" he has mazda manuals in pdf format saved my ass on re-assembly. One word of advise that i did not find until it was to late DO NOT SCRAPE OFF THE GASKETS ON THE CARB SPACER!!!!!! I REPEAT DON'T SCRAPE OFF THE GASKETS ON THE CARB SPACER. Have all the parts need and a clean large place to disassemble. I used a Haynes manual for dissassembly and put the bolts, spring, and whatnot's in cups with the corasponding # from the illistration on the cup. Seemed to work out real easy when i put it all back together. Other than that just a lot of cleaning, alot. I used carb cleaner and parts cleaner that is in a gallon can at the parts store, but if i wer to do it again i would just buy about 10 cans of carb cleaner cheapest i could find and compressed air. one last thing auto zone has rebuild kits for around 30 bones and it has everything you need (not paper washers). Ramble done.
