Rearend
 

How simple is it to swap a gs rearend with a gsl rearend with discs and lsd.
any major mods or just pop it on and hook up the calipers

un-bolt the old one then bolt in the new one,
the only part that takes brains is the emergency brake cable,

other then that its as easy as 1,2 "out and in"

Yeah drop the new rear end complete, it saves a lot of time... Its about a hour 1/2 job...

When you say drop the "rear end complete", I assume you mean to disconnect it from the suspension pieces (i.e., shocks; Watts link, lower link) and drive shaft.

I am going to pick up a rear end this weekend (with e-brake cables). Any specific guidance is appreciated.

By complete I mean axle assy connected, axle shafts, calipers, rotors brakes etc...

Of course you have to remove the springs, the shocks, the drivesahft...

I just got the e brake cables from the calipers that went through the frame and used my exisiting e brake cable from the car.. It was all pretty simple, and with air tools it goes pretty fast.

Get some safety glasses on tho, shit likes to fall in your eyes and it sucks :(

yeh I hate it when I get rust and crap in my eyes.

always use safety glasses when your under the car

Does the Year matter? I have an 81 gsl parts car and 84gs I am putting it into.

keep the drive shaft connected.
you will spill fluid from the tranny but you should change it anyway,
the driveshft is already balanced for the rear so keep it with it,

leave all control arms connected to the car except for one that is a bitch to get off, "see pic below"

other then that you can even leave the shocks connected to the car or to the rear,your choice
