rear caliper stuck

I have a 84 gsl I took the rear caliper lose to put on pads. Both are stuck I have the tool to do it but they want turn ether one. Is there a trick to them or is this normal with these. The brakes seem to drag a little but I have never seen a piston that wouldnt move at all.

Try opening up the bleeder screw and then compressing them. Sometimes the rubber lines go bad and turn into check valves. A little flap of rubber splits off inside them, fluid still gets to the caliper but trying the compress them the flap blocks off the line. The brakes still work, but they drag since the fluid can't return to the master cylinder. If that's not it then make sure the e-brake cables aren't stuck. If they still won't compress then I'd say you need new calipers.

I took the bleeders out they just wont turn at all. This is a real great design.

With good seals in there, and all the grease to seal them up, it takes a pretty good amount of force to turn the pistons back into the calipers. Be sure you're running them 'IN' with clockwise rotation, and they should gradually go back into the caliper.

I've never had a problem getting them back in there if you're using the right tools, but as you say, if they're seized, then you need to rebuild them, or replace them.

I've never used the proper tool to do them, always used needle nose pliers and thats never failed me. Usually once you get that initial turn, its easier from there.

I am going to try them again this morning.I even used a channel lock on one got it to move about half a turn and it stopped. I ordered rebuilt ones but hopping not to have to buy both of them. Its been my year for fixing every car and motorcycle I own money is getting thin.
