I thought those o-rings were silicone coated with viton. Also, I asked a few people and they agreed with me that ATF cooler hoses are just regular oil-safe rubber -- rated for high temperatures.

I don't remember this being a thread to debate the use of ATF in a rotary motor. I believe it was started to ask about the many uses of the product and where it started from. Why has it turned into a shooting gallery over rotary use? I can understand why it isn't used in a rotary by many. Unlike a piston motor it is burned WITH the gas. Oil and gas are mixed and then burned, unlike a piston motor where it is seperate. I can see many uses for it in other applications, and have used it in other applications. This is what was being asked.

ATF cooler hoses probably are made from the same stuff as oil-safe hose, but if I ever needed to buy some ATF cooler hoses, I would specifically ask for some. I used to work at an auto parts store, by the way.

Yeah, this thread has degraded like pretty much all of them have since around '02 or so. At least the 1st gen forum is more civilized than the 2nd and 3rd gen forums. I hope I haven't contributed here in a negative way.

ATF is the devil. It ranks up there with Autolite spark plugs and exhaust backpressure. :)

well one use i've found is starting a flooded rotary a little bit down each primary barrel and started right up after a few pumps. smoked real bad but worked like magic. I'm sure any low viscosity oil would work in the same way but ATf worked great and this was on our race engine that turns 8500 rpms all days. We did this around april or so after we streetported our engine and carb tuning was all out of whack and floats acting up to flood out. No signs of problems yet...(fingers crossed)

and the combustion seals, i mean the ones sealing between the housings, the inner seals are for the combustion chamber, i thought those were the viton ones

they probably are just rated for higher temps, i just know its a different hose
