re-upholster/make you own seat & door panels

has anyone done this before? ive watched "pimp my ride" many times before and they pretty much make seats for cars. what he does is take the old seat frame and strip it down, cut new foam to shape the seat, then glue/sew the seat together. i really want to do this to my newly acquired rx, but i would like some more guidance if possible.

im also planning on re-doing the door panels...i really dont think this will be that hard, has anybody ever tried this on their own? PICS PLZ!

It's not that hard, just make sure you take your time and use quality materials. Find a fabric store, or an apholstry shop and talk with them.

Automotive interiors will see 10× as much wear and tear as, say, a livingroom, so don't cheap out on the fabrics, etc, or you'll be on the fast road to fadesville.

I have been wondering the samething. I just want to duplicate the original pattern but use a different type leather. The only thing of interest I have been able to find was someone who took the old seat cover, carefully unstiched the pieces, using them as a template for cutting the new pieces.

Here's some ideas for a partial rebuild on the door panels.
