re-speed race coilover welding advice
 

well i got my race version of re-speed coilovers in last week and im looking forward to slapping them on my 7...only problem is that i'm still a little confused on the cutting, cleaning up, and welding part....does anybody have step by step pictures of this process? or possibly just a picture to show what and where i'll be cutting and welding? thanks all

The short of it is, disassemble your stock strut as per the service manual you should already have. Using a thin cutoff wheel, cut the stock perch at it's welds making sure not to dig into the strut tube as you do it. At this point you might as well cut off the brake line bracket. It just gets in the way. Use a grinding wheel to smooth the surface. Then measure 6 inches from the top of the tube. Make sure that is bare steel. Mark that spot on both struts and bring them and the new perches to the welding shop of your choice. It should take you no more than an hour to prep the struts. When you get them back clean them up, prime and paint whatever color you like. Reassembly is the reverse of disassembly, using the new parts of course.

thanks...i'll keep that in mind in case i get stuck and frustrated, but for the most part, i want to at least try to do this by myself....thanks for the input everybody i'll let you all know how it goes...just waiting for the sway bar at this point

where you weld the collar isn't super important, you should see mine! whoever did it, did a horrible job
