Rb Header to Straight Pipe to Muffler?

I ordered a header off of racing beat and am about to order a straight through highflow muffler. Can I just get a straight pipe welded between these two? Want diameter piping should I get?

anthrax 08-29-05 11:39 AM

You can but it will be loud.

DwArF 08-29-05 11:52 AM

Unbearable loud?

z-beater 08-29-05 12:00 PM

It is not as bad as every one makes it out to be. But this is from a guy that rides 2 strokes. I had a rb header with a bonz blown out cat(pretty much straight through) and it was more annoying than loud. Granted that this was also on the stock muffler. It made a really twangy sound. Butup around 6k on the dyno people said that it sounded pretty good. I felt like a ricer on the street though :(

You shouldn't have this problem if you get an aftermarket muffler though. If you take it some place you might wanto to see if they will test a couple different ones on your setup.

As for piping I have 2.5" all the way back but I also have a SE.

 it's going to be loud. Did the same set up on my mint condition 82 gsl, and regret every second of it

Did you have a stock muffler?

Same here. Dual header and pipes back to the RB muffler. Way too loud.

Rotarx7 08-29-05 02:07 PM

yeah.. what they said!

Siraniko 08-29-05 02:08 PM

You guys dotn know what loud is. Dual pipes to a primaflow muffler IS not as loud as compared to a dual to a magnaflow.

Latin270 08-29-05 04:42 PM

I have a RB header strait pipe and RB muffler......it's not load! It sounds really nice. Give it a shot and I think you will be pleased with the sound.

Rm4TWO 08-29-05 05:31 PM

Everyone’s definition of loud is a bit different. I have a RB Race Header & Street port center section to a 6” round Dynomax Ultra flow muffler 3” in/out and it’s too loud for me……and my neighbors come to think about it. :-) But this isn’t a street car so I can live with it. Regardless if you think it’s loud or not, it will certainly be too loud for the local law enforcement officers. So unless you have an inside connection with the law, I wouldn’t run that setup.

glewsRx 08-29-05 05:33 PM

You won't be able to listen to NPR. But you will be able to hear the ying yang twins. Which guy do you want to be?

JasonS 08-29-05 05:35 PM

Everyone whines and complaines about not wanting their RX-7 to sound like the Honda boys. All they want is to sound like us!!! They aspire to have true sport cars with true sport car sounds!! I say go for it! I'm going RB header, true duals back to an aftermarket muffler.

Nah, you guys that say "its too loud" must not be running a strait pipe to a racing beat muffler. I tried a few others that were cheap alternatives but nothing can quiet a large street ported (wild) 12a like a good old fashion RB muffler! :bigthumb:

twigg 08-29-05 06:53 PM

it will get louder as you break that muffler in and that rotary beats the shit outtah it with flames and heat. i have a RB header with 2.75 pipe all the way to a stainless steal muffler and after about 500 miles on it, its LOUD, very loud. But i shoot flames all day long :D

DwArF 08-29-05 08:04 PM

Flames sound pretty bomb

rmriggin 08-29-05 10:57 PM

I have straight pipe from stock header back to a huge magnaflow (#12640 6" diameter, 27" body, 33" overall length, 2.5" in/out). At $80 and a lifetime warranty the price is right. It starts right at the rear axle and points very slightly downwards. I have not had problems with ground clearance because it hardly hangs any lower than the stock muffler, and because it is so long it gives it a very nice tone (people from the NW section that have seen and heard it tell me it sounds good and ask what muffler I am using). If I were to do it again though I would go with a 5"x8" oval muffler for a better fit, say a magnaflow #12368 24" body, 30" overall, 2.5" in and 2.5" dual tips out.

I just bought that off ebay.

851stgen12a 08-30-05 08:35 AM

are you guys insane?!?!?!?! I have the RB streetport header, to a 2 1/4" dual primary to a 3" straight pipe to the RB powerpulse muffler.
Not all that loud at all!!! Still better than half as load as all the hondas around! It only gets loud when I get on it and rev it out.
The only down side is that it is a little tinney. And I think thats because of the 3" section.

the presilencers will bring the tone down, getting rid of that tinney sound.

mjg80918 08-30-05 11:52 AM

yeah it wont really be that loud. i have the set up. but i wanna bend my pipe so it come out the side behind the front, right tire.

DwArF 04-13-10 10:08 PM

So I've had my exhaust for a long time and its loud. I used to love it but I went stock to pass smog (except i didnt pass) and I like the quieter Rx7 a little more.

I was thinking of adding another one of the Magnaflow 2.5 inch/out 4 round mufflers to my exhaust to quiet it down a bit. Also I'm planning on getting flanges installed because my exhaust is one piece from the header back. Which means I have to drop my rearend whenever I change my exhaust.

Does anyone have any opinons on the magnaflow or know of anything that would be better. Also what flanges should I get? I'd like to get ones that have easy to find gaskets.

Siraniko 04-13-10 11:16 PM

go with a universal 2.5" muffler from Racing Beat. A turn down will give it a different tone.

Jeff20B 04-13-10 11:35 PM

I have one of these.

I blew some compressed air through it and a whole bunch of others. It faired well. But yes like Wacky said, get an RB 2.5" universal muffler. It was by far the most muffled of the ten or so mufflers I tested this way. Impressively quiet. Of course it depends on how you feed it. Dual long primaries will be loud any way you slice it.
