RB Flywheel?
 

I recently purchesed a RB Light Steel Flywheel from a user but is doesnt come with the counterweight. Its for an '83 12a. Do i just use the counterweight from an auto RX-7 from the same year or what? I tried emailing RB, but nothing.

Alot of the steel flywheels require the aluminum spacers between the pressure plate mounting bolts and the surface of the flywheel. If yours is the type make sure that if you do not have them that you get them. If you try and install the system that requires them without, you will have major problems.

Do you know i the rb light steel flywheels need these spacer? Also how would you be able to tell if you need the stacer from looking at the flywheel?

Good question^. I would contact Racing beat and ask them if theirs requires the spacers. What this does on some of the aftermarket flywheels is ensure the "Step" or distance from the pressure plate contact point to the flywheel depth is the correct height.

I know that Mazdatrix now offers this kit. And the last time I needed info on this I contacted Midway(centerforce) and asked them where I could get these. They refeered me to Racing beat and gave me a made up part # to give to them. So when I contacted Racing beat and told them what I needed and the number that Centerforce had given me they ordered it.

Not entirely correct.

The steel and aluminum flywheels are universal. They can be used with either 215mm or 225mm clutches. You only need the aluminum spacers and longer bolt kit if using 225mm clutches. If using 215mm, the stock pressure plate bolts can be used.

jeff is completly right only 13b needs spacers and 12a dosent.

I am technically correct but I suppose I should make a few distinctions for the benefit of the newbies here.

'83-'85 12As came with 225mm, as did '84-'92 NA 13Bs. '82 and older 12As and 13Bs came with 215mm. Either clutch can be used with the aftermarket flywheels as long as you have the correct rear counterweight for your rotating assembly (and correct front counterweight for certain 12A models). So technically either size of clutch can be used regardless of whether your engine is a 12A or 13B.

That's why my statement is as it is. If you noticed that I stated if "Yours" is this type you will need the spacers.

But thank you for the added info as to distinguish what size requires the spacers.
