rat's nest

removed my rat's nest from my 1980 today. Didn't use the tutorial. I just looked at the diagram under the hood and removed it that way. Ran new vacuum hose where needed. I still have my AC so took care of that too.

That rat's nest was a HORRIBLE design.

Probably the best overall mod for my car to date. I noticed a definate improvement.

you took out your a/c? did you also remove the condenser in front of the radiator? i attempted to but didn't have the right tools. i was so disappointed. i have been meaning to get rid of it for quite some time now. also when i pass smog, my rat's nest is going bye bye

Actually, I kept my AC. I converted it over to 134a while I was at it. I just took off the AC SV from the rat's nest and hook it up.

Well, this is how I did it. I looked at the diagram for the rat's nest (Haynes or look under the hood of the car). I saw where everything went and ran new lines to the parts that needed to stay (crankcase vent, vacuum advance etc) and plugged the rest. I used three T fittings that were 3/16th and 1 that was 5/16th. I then used either two or three vacuum plugs. The tutorial shows only needing two 3/16th but I used an additional one to get my AC SV working and also running a line to my crankcase vent and purge valve.

Since mine is a 1980, it will differ slightly from yours probably but it should be pretty close.

My blockoff plates were purchased through Mazdatrix and had already been installed.

You bought it and you never got it? That is easily fixed, but you need acrobat to read it. Its a free download.
