Racing beat VS Bonez air filter assemblies
Racing beat VS Bonez air filter assemblies
OK so I have enough funds to get either the Racing Beat filter assembly with Racing Beat air filter ( http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm and http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm ) Or the Bonez system which come with a K&N filter ( http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/saintake.html ) Which would you get a why? According to Racing Beat the K&N filter is better but I like the retro look of the Racing Beat filter assembly better. Thanks |
If you want to keep all of your emissions equipment get the Bonez system. But if you are going to get rid of all you smog stuff get the RB intake.
I have the Bonez cover and its cool but I was expecting more even though it is the exact same thing sown in the picture. And you do get to hear the carb a lot more it gives it a more throaty tone. You do feel better throttle response and I have been happy with it on my car. But I just bought the RB intake from another forum member because I am getting rid of all my smog equipment and I think it will flow better but I will still be using the K&N filter. So its just up to what you plan to do with the car.If I had to do it again I would buy the RB kit and just order a K&N when it was time for me to Change/clean the filter. It doesn't look like its that much stuff to reconnect when its time to smog. Just my $0.02 |
I did not realize that the Bonez was smog legal….
I was originally planning on just reinstalling the stock when it came time to smog. Let me know if you notice a difference between the RB and the Bonez Thanks |
Well I dont know if you could take it to get smogged with it on, but all it really is a metal plate just a little bigger then the air filter. SO all that you would need to do for smog would be to unscrew it and put the original cover back on.
I will let you know the difference after I put it on. |
Ohhh I see the Bonez is just replaces the top blue cover with a sivler one and you retain the rest of the stock air filter assembly. Where the RB is a whole new assembly +++
thanks |
I can tell you that the Rb sounds very nice....I'm pretty happy with mine certainly!
|
ok, just to throw this out there, but mazdacomp says their's gains you 5hp more then the rb, i have no clue whether this is for real or not, but like i said, i'm just throwing it out there...

Note:
When posting a link from racing beat, right click on the listing of the item in the left margin and click on copy shortcut other wise you will end up at the main screen. Just a note for future refrence. EX: http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16531 Where as pulling it from the address bar gives you this http://www.racingbeat.com/FRmazda1.htm Not trying to be a dick, just trying to help! I personally would go with the RB one, As I see this as more classy compared to the bonez one. IMO |
I have the RB one and it is really nice.
The sound is sweet and it looks classy... Jay 1984 FB |
the Bonez intake is on back order and has been for several months

Alvin Do you have a link for this? I can't find it on the mazdacomp website thanks |
you could cut rectangle holes around the stock blue housing to give it better flow and take the scoop thing off that has the flap........ i have the RB one with the RB filter and its great sounding. when you rev up you can hear the carb opening more then you can hear the exhughst.....(which is also a RB header/straight pipe/RB muffler)....all over the intake gives you a better curve of letting air in while the muffler flows well enough to let it out too..
|
I can't do a link cauz I think you'd need a login to get to it, but here is the text of it...
Part No. 0000-06-7301 Description AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY Notes Velocity style air cleaner provides for increase of 12 hp over stock. 7 hp more than Racing Beat air cleaner. Comes with K-N air filter element. |
Zyrano do remember how much they want for one? Or can you look for me.
Thankis |
pricey, it's like 149 for it, but it includes the k&n filter, though you'd need to have mazda comp member ship to buy it...
|
If I was using a stock carb still, I'd go with the Mazda Comp one...

I am interested. anyway I can get a picture of it? thanks |
heh, you'd need to join mazda comp, which requires prove of some racing participation, otherwise, i'm not sure how it'd work...

I've had both, and I can tell you that if it's between the Bonez and the RB, the RB is better hands down.

Quick question will a RB air filter assembly fit on an unmodified car ie I still have the rats nest etc. I realize that it will not be emissions legal but I can swap it out for testing if I need to. My major concern is that the addition of a RB air filter assembly will require me to REMOVE or heavily alter the emissions equipment.
Thanks |
I am thinking not,
When I read the description of the produst on RB website: "There is no provision for emission control valve hose/air pump hose connections on either assembly" That means there is no place for the ratsnest to hook up to, so im thinking you will have a major vaccum leak, but I dont know for sure. Call RB and ask them, they are always willing to help. |

Yea plus it seems a little high up there on the pricing scale IMO.
|
ya can't go wrong with racing beat. good, dependable stuff that actually works, and was engineered with quality.
you might be able to use the rb system if you just replaced the header and removed the air pump, because you have to block off those ducts on the stock aircleaner assembly anyway. b.k~ |
