Racing Beat Holley Help

Ok, so I'm trying to work the bugs out of the racing beat set up I just installed. i got it used and it was missing a couple of parts (heat tube for the carb, and oil metering setup) . I have it installed and I got her started the other night.

I went out tonight and tried to get her running, and I had to give the car a TON of gas to get it started, and even then it backfired a lot before it got going.

Once i get it up and running then it hovers at 3000 rpm...then it was trying to drop to 2000 and when it gets to about 1500 it starts to sputter and die.

It has a bit of a miss the entire time it's running. It ran with the factory carb I had on it, but needed to be choked out to run even then....

New to Rotarys..nobody I know works on these cars.....When do I start my search for the problem?

Thanks!

sounds to me like you've had a vacuum leak for quite some time. you need to find it (and fix it) before proceeding.

it does sound like a vacuum leak.

If you swapped intakes for the RB setup, you might count that out as your vacuum leak if you're confident you cleaned, and installed in properly.

You might think about checking the PCV setup you have and the brake booster line. Clamp the brake booster line off and see if that makes any difference.

I say vac leak as well. And, if it's not a true racingbeat holley (or even if it is) add a 1/2 inch open spacer under it.

turn the fuel pump on look into the back barrels of the carb and see if its dripping gas down the venturies...had that problem a couple of years ago ...was a bitch to find by myself!!! swapped carbs and cured the problem!!

I've change out the vacuum lines...except the line that goes to the brake booster...Thanks for the tips I'll check them ALL out! I'll let you know how I progress! Thanks!
