quick! talk me out of buying this car:

250can: 81 MAZDA RX7, approx 171,000 kms, 1 blown rotor, 1 yr old paint, no rust $250 obo. Burnaby Tel: 604-not-sayin:p

now well over 1k$can to fix or replace the engine(best guess--- correct me if i'm wrong)

THis could be my big chance. I don't have a car, but I've been lusing after an rx7 for months, haning out here trying to learn as much as possible.

I dont have a garage, but i have a dad with considerable experience with fixing cars and engine swaps. I also know someone in abbotsford(way out in the 'burbs) who has a garage and quite a bit of expertise.

i would go for the 83 red one, sounds like a great deal!

thorin 01-16-03 07:39 PM

the 83 red one has almost 200,000k.

the I was thinking of buying the one with the trashed motor, because any high mileage rotary is gonna need expensive work very shortly anyways.

im goiing to go see the red one tomorrow.

$250 is pretty flippin' cheap, especially Canadian. My last set of tires cost more than that! Walk up with $200 cash and they may just let it go for that. Good luck in whatever you decide to do...

well i would offer 800 -900 for the red one, and save the rest of the money to build a 4 port 13b with high comp rotors..... And a nice big street port.....

And a holley carb, and RB intake, and RB long primary exhaust.......

Thats with a few pay checks....

But thats just me....

And it also depends on the interior, and the body, and the Model....(S, GS, GSL)

Laters, Andrew (ps what models are they?)

Paid $350 cdn for my 85 GSL-SE. Good motor bad body, poor interior, wiring harness at rear quarter burnt through trim. The wife gets the 2002 Sebring LXi I keep the 7, on blocks in the back yard. I think it's a fair trade.

I want that body though!!!

Anyways, good luck!

That '81 sounds like a BIG project for a first car. If I were you, I'd go look at the '82 and '83. Ask the owner about maintenance records, replaced parts, how he drove it, etc. Also, look at the tires as they may need to be replaced and that will add to the cost, but don't let that be the basis for your decision!
