Quick choke question with one quick addition
 

I've been swapping carbs lately to try to get rid of some problems and have since gone back to my original carb with a minor modification (thanks Sterling). Now if I pull the choke out, it won't stay out. It works fine, but you have to keep it pulled out. The carb I was running before it I didn't even have the choke connected. Granted, it is 80 degrees out around here. This is the first time I've had the car during the summer months. Is it just warm enough outside that it doesn't need to stay pulled out or do I have a problem elsewhere?

Also, when putting the carb back on and retuning it I ran into this. I'm just curious about this as I am still learning about these carb thingamabobs. I set it up for a nice smooth idle at about a grand. Took it for a spin and every time I touched the gas pedal, it would cough and sputter from too much fuel being dumped it. Took it home, leaned out the idle adjust screw and raised the idle rpm so it now idles kinda like crap, but stays running so I don't care. But now she runs fine and doesn't stumble. Should the idle mixture screw even matter for that? Or was my carb maybe just working some crap through or something like that.

The choke is supposed to stay out in 80 degree weather.

Choke is a magnetic choke and needs power to stay pulled out. Maybe a fuse or its not hooked up. As far as the other problem I don't know what mod you did to it but if it involved accelerator pump in any way thats probably where your problems at.

Not that this has anything to do with the thread...but - About the accelerator pump. When I got my car, the pump diaphragm wasn't working. The car still had a lot of power, but now after the rebuild.....WOA! It flies! If your car has over 100k miles and it's lacking the power that it used to have, check this out - it may not be working properly.

Had nothing to do with the accelerator pump. I've pretty much got the problem worked out. Leaning it out solved the stumble. And the idle is getting better. Still have more tweaking to do though. I'm just trying to learn how carbs work and if the stumble would be caused by too rich of an idle setting. Apparently it is.

So choke is electromagnetic. Hmm. Gives me an idea where to look. Choke operates correctly, just won't stay out. Thanks guys
