quick Accel. Pump question

my car was (still is ) hesitiating around 1500rpm. i searched, and one of the things to check was the accel pump. I took the air cleaner off, and pressed the gas a couple of times. there is SUPPOSED to be a jet of gas coming out (in the carb ). At worst a dribble, well in mine NOTHING happens. Whats the deal? The accel pump totally dead?

sounds like it could be. Has your carb ever been rebuilt? If it hasn't it's time to do it. If you're shy about doing it yourself, www.kdrotary.com is right around the corner from you in Nazareth. Good luck!

It could just be adjusted very poorly. Turn the adjusting nut all the way down onto the rod. This should certainly yield a healthy shot. Also tighten up the pump housing screws (you'll be able to do three of the four). The carb housing metal is soft, as a re the screws. Don't bear down too hard.

That is a possibility- the simplest one that you can hope for. But it is more probable that the wieghts and checkballs in the AP system are coated with varnish, and are too sticky to slide in their sleeves easily.
If that's the case, and it most likely is, a rebuild and thourough cleaning is in order.
The AP system is the first thing to fail due to a dirty carb.

Rebuilding it is not as hard as it might look.
You should pay no more than $25 for a rebuild kit. I've seen them for as high as $42.50. They are all the same!
