Question about tranny linkages

I have a spare tranny to put in my car, but for some reason the linkages on the tranny were removed. How hard is it to swap them from my old tranny to the new one before I install it?

What years are the trans?

The one I have is an 83.. the one i'm swapping in I believe is an 82.. although it could be an 83.

Thats a remote shifter. Which linkage? the shifter? the shift rod assembly?

Mschafe 09-11-03 08:38 AM

The tranny i'm swapping in has nothing attached to it. So I guess all the linkages will need to be moved over.

No its not that hard. The shop manual has a good section on tranny overhaul. Use that to guide you. Youll need to remove the shifter, then the spring, ball and stuff underneath. Then the tail housing, and then the shift rod IIRC.

You have my old tranny. Your lucky that thing is in PERFECT shape. Ive never had such a slick shifting manuel.

I was thinking, hmmmm, i took those parts off my old tranny to put on my TII, I wonder :)

swaping the parts is easy.

ON the old tranny,

where the shifter meets with the tranny, there should be a small cover with 4 screws. Inside there is the shifter bushing, there is a pin that need to be punched out. Then remove the 8 or so bolts holding the rear tranny cover and remove it. The shift rod should pull free from the shifter bushing. Then just put all the parts on the new tranny.

Happy fast shifting.

Thanks for the info! I just wanted to make sure how to do it. My old tranny is starting to wear out, and its time for a swap. Yeah 82streetracer, it's your old tranny. I suppose I could have just asked you first how to do it..
