question about exhaust been under the axle

what are the pros and cons of having the exhaust under the axle that over it. im gonna redo my exhaust in my car and im been thinking of doing it like that but i want opinions about it. thanks

I'm thinking that to run the exhaust under the axle, you're going to have to have it down low enough to avoid the axle striking it. There's enough travel in the suspension, that you're going to be pretty close to dragging the pipe on the ground at all times.

Yep. Too much travel in suspension, you couldnt jack up your car again (unless on the diff) without ripping it off. There is about 6-10 inch of travel (guessing at this point) so your exhaust will be dragging the ground to avoid this.

Pro- more power
Cons- low ground clearance. I wouldnt do this on a streetcar. I would also suggest that if you must do this, then limit the shock travel with some sort of cable/strap so you can jack the car up.

I plan to run mine under the axle.

since I am having my exhaust custom CNC bent by stainlessworks.net, going over the axle is too many bends and I dont want to order a $100+ peice of pipe and have it not fit.

I really doubt that you would damage the exhaust with the exhaust.

I had a custom rear section on my old 12a setup and they put it on too short the first time (over axle, because they fitted it with the car jacked up)

The axle touched the exaust when the car was just at a rest. with a persone or two and driving down the road, Im sure that it got hit really hard a few times, but it didnt break.

it did however, EXPLODE a few months after getting it, because the shop made there own collector and didnt even take the time to fully welld all the seams and Im sure some air leaked in and caused a few backfires in the exhaust.

also, running the exhaust under the axle gives the tip a upward and right angle slant, your sig says your using a knock-off n1 muffler (me too, but full 3 in) so under the axle will look better. I had a n1 on there before with my over the axle, and it pointed down and looked weird.

but even with lowering the car and putting the exhaust more toward the middle of the axle i still had crearance problems? ohh wel, i just doit over it. thanks

EDIT:
82 streetracer: yeah but the N1 muffler and the dynomax muffler are gonna go in the trash, is too dam loud right now and i almost got a ticket for it, im gonna do the same as directfreaks setup but in 2.5 to keep the boost down and the noise.

i put the muffler (cherrybomb :D ) where the old stock cat was with a turn down immediately after, if tis aimed well it works great

I went over the axle and don't see a reason to go under unless you are lazy :) If I made 3" fit you can make your 2.5 fit. Think of how bad it will look if you go under the axle. Just my opinion.

im not saying that im lazy, just a thought, i seen some ppl doing it latelly i just want some pros and cons about it but if it creates a clearance isue that is gonna bother alot. i just going to doit over the axle instead. makes it easier

Just get anice bend over the axel,
Thats what tickled my fancy so i made one, i barrowed the over the axel bend of a chevy nova. no creases no whipples just a nice bend then to the buffler, works ok but not pro, look at my site thing and you can tell how it is (jimmy rigged) but works. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/493457/2

Holy SHIT William!!!

Do you drive that RX everyday with just a cherrybomb!?!?!

Do you wear ear plugs too?

One of my employees ran his exhuast under the axle and it drags everytime he hits a big bump.

It's not as bad as I thought however.
