Is there any point in removing the "rat's nest"?
Will it give me a boost in hp or is it just for looks?

basically, it is to make it easier to troubleshoot vacuum leaks. Since there would be less vacuum operated thing the chance is lowered that they will leak. I doubt there is a horsepower increase. If there is, its minimal. I did it just to get all that extra crap out of the way, and yes it does look better.

looks better, no hp increase. easier for work on the carb in those hard to reach places. makes sure once its off that you plug up those lines coming from the carburetor...otherwise that is more vacuum leaks and thus more problems
