It's been awhile since I had an update. mainly because theres not much new. To many other projects.
But with it getting warmer out its time to burn a little more midnight oil....
https://www.rx7club.com/attachment.p...d=169405&stc=1
Trying to finish up on the all the parts to get them ready for power coating 1st of May.
Everything from the bellhousing to the front cover and intake to oilpan is getting coated :)
While the parts are getting done I'll be removing the old engine and working on installing the new steering box and cleaning up a few things.
Then assembling the engine and dropping it in. It should go real quick since everything is already modified to fit. Haltech is done just plug -n- play......

So with a little luck and some late nights I'll be turning the key June 1st... :)

I wanna be there when you turn the key for the first time!

Looking good, What are the specs on that turbo?

setzep 04-18-06 06:19 PM

Hey!! What's the alternator doing down there!? I like! Have any more pic's of that?

vipernicus42 04-18-06 06:38 PM

Awesome. :)

Tranquil - Maybe I should have a meet there that day :) Then charge for rides. hehe

z-beater - Its a BNR Hybrid S5 - Stage 4. They have gotten 402RWHP out of a ported T2 block. So we will see what the stock Cosmo block will do :)

Setzep - The alt bracket is from Pineapple Racing, it doesnt quite fit right with the SE cover but I'm going to make it work. I think the cosmo alt pulleys are just a bit off. It's just a test fit since the front cover is just setting on there. But when I got it I did bolted it up and noticed it was a bit off.

vipernicus42 - Thanks :)

On the pineapple racing site they show a slide adjustment but you have a turnbuckle style. Which one comes with the kit? Also what doesn't fit well? I see on their site they list a spacer that is needed if using a Fc alternator. I'm guessing this spacer doesn't work when using the cosmo alternator and that's your problem?

Hey Max, get that alt bracket figured out yet? I'd like to get one for my car also but I'd like to know what needs to be done to make it fit before ordering.

Max, beautiful as always.

Can you describe what is wrong? I've sold over 100 of them and only one has ever come back, due to the fabricator welding the lower boss on crooked. The brackets are CNC laser cut and the end bosses are CNC lathed, so I'd be pretty suprised if the bolt holes didn't line up or whatever. The spacing is the same, from the earliest single-distributor 12As right through the last 13B FCs (FDs have a different front cover layout). Are you having a problem with fore and aft alignment with the pulleys?

For serpentene setups, I will say I did get one complaint about the belt vibrating due to a harmonic at idle (nowhere else, apparently) but the customer didn't want to return it. No complaints involving the usual single belt setups. I stopped selling the turnbuckle-style tensioners because they were a PITA to make, unprofitable and did not increase the effective stiffness of the bracket, like the flat tensioners do.

If you find there is a problem, return it. I can send you another one or refund your money.

BTW, I have a new batch in production right now (only four units left in stock!). The new ones use 1/4 inch thick steel, instead of 3/16th, so they will be even stiffer.

That is sweet Max, nice work as always.

setzep 04-23-06 10:53 AM

you out there Max?

MIKE-P-28 04-24-06 12:53 AM

Ok got to ask, why in hell mount the alternator down there? Looks fine on top and easy to get to.

Setzep - It will be a month till I get it all back together so I can make the adjustments.

Blake - I have no complaints wit the bracket. I figured with my odd combo it might not work perfect. Cosmo Block, GSL-SE cover, Cosmo Alt. But here is what I remember.

Its been a few months so bare with me. The Alternator bolts up fine. however I had to use a spacer to bring it forward to match the pulleys (Factory serp's) this made the Turnbuckle no line up and had to actualy go back at an angle which was blocked with a casting on the Cosmo's alt casing. I was going to weld an extension onto the bracket to bring it out further to clear the alt, then just drill and retap it. no biggy for me. :) I'll post some pics when I get it back together.
Still very happy with the bracket. it saved me alot of R&D time.
In the pic below its sitting back from where it will be. I just use the spacer to bring it forward.

aussiesmg - Thanks :)

MIKE-P-28 - Moved it because its cool, hehe. my main reason was when I put the FD alternator on my GSL-SE block, My Cusco strut bar would no longer clear. the alt is much larger. I was able to rotate the bar 180degress and it cleared the alt but slightly rubbed on the plenum. I was ok with that.
Now on the cosmo intake I figured it would really hit and the alternator is large so I would not be able to use the bar at all. So by moving it down and to the side I kill a few birds with one stone.
Plus it will really clean up the top of the motor. I took off the mounting points off the water pump and think it will look rather neat :)

A more recent clearer (noncellphone) picture. Everything goes to power this weekend.... must work more!

Definitely looking great.

wow ... and you're saying that it's not even powdercoated yet. un-freakin'-believable. anyway, can't wait to see the updates and finished product. i've got to say, i've looked at pictures of RE's so many times, but i never really realized how long the intake passages were and how tall it sat above the motor itself. amazing!

MIKE-P-28 04-26-06 03:29 AM

max I found so more goodies I forgot to give you. Also found, not sure it matters now, but I got the paint from the tender blue metallic car. Just in case who ever gets it wants to paint it so the engine bay and car would match. Im sure the paint isnt good, but the paint code is definately on the can somewhere.
