Project "Old School 85 RX-7 GSL-SE well underway!

Hey guys,
Here is a update on my new to me 85 RX-7 GSL-SE...

Fresh tuneup with:
Plugs,
wires,
cap & rotor
Fuel filter
Oil & Filter change
Collant flush
Rear LTD Slip diff. fluid changed...

Cone intake = improved performance with better breathing & lost weight (10 LBs)

Bye bye Smog pump...Lost around 15 LBs here and the car revs much quicker now...

A/C belt off now, but taking off the whole A/C unit is next!

That should make an est. total 50 LBs off of the front end, where the 1st gens are a lil heavy in the balance dept.

I will also be "tweaking" the exhaust soon for improved flow...That also will be a savings of around 20 LBs

My new high performance tires should be in & on Tues...The PO had some puny 185 series all weather tires on it. UGH!

I still need to have my steering fixed...Way too much slop to enjoy driving it now.
I will be getting some pics after my new Tires are on.

Sounds like she's coming along nicely man. You should get some guys together and come up here for a RX meet/Autocross on July 1st/2nd at Grand Valley State University. I can provide camping spaces at my place (1 acre back yard that looks like a park ). I can also fix your steering while you're here (did mine already). Think about it, should be a great time...

Don't forget to move the battery to the back of the car, preferably on the passenger side. That helps corner weights quite a lot and takes a good 20lbs out of the engine bay. I believe you can even find kits that have all the bits you need to do that safely and legally (depending on any motorsports sanctioning bodies you may or may not care about)

Thanks for the offer Kentetsu.

I am heading up the the Michigan/Indiana border on the 1st for a friends early 4th bash...

I grew up in Manistee on lake Michigan and a buddy went to Grand Rapids JC, so I know some people up that way, I just don't know if I want to drive this car that far with the steering so sloppy...I hope to have it fixed before then, but that RX-7 event does sound fun. Maybe the 2nd?

I will see how it goes.
Thanks again!

New update:

A/C compressor off, but that braket that holds it on the block isn't wanting to come off...

Engine bay starting to look better with pw. steering delete, no smog pump or A/C...

But that A/C compressor braket must weight 10 lbs by itself, sure would like to get it off...

I have a ground wire attached to it, but that could be ground elsewhere.

Is this car going to be used as a daily driver, track car, or weekender?

I don't know about up there, but not having A/C down his is just miserable. I drove about 250 miles in city traffic without A/C in the middle of the day, and my clothes were literally soaking wet.

A/C is a must.

Anyways, have you soaked the bolts holding the bracket on with some type of penetrating lube? If you haven't, I suggest you give them a good soaking, and find a nice breaker bar. It shouldn't be too difficult with a 1-1.5' breaker bar.

I think I will keep the battery in its stock location...
I use my bins for holding stuff...

This is a 2nd car so I don't need A/C...Although I hope it doesn't get over 80 much this summer

The bottom two holding it were studs, I think its fused to them. PB Blaster is a good idea, let her soak awhile...Man that bracket is BEEFY!

Adam: You can have it (A/C compressor) I have no idea what shipping would cost though?
