thunkrd 04-17-09 05:20 PM

the sleeves seem to move.. there's nothing really holding them down. i followed the instructions. at least i thought i did. am i missing something?

mazdaverx713b 04-17-09 05:27 PM

what sleeves are moving on you?

thunkrd 04-17-09 07:19 PM

sorry i was referring to the coilover sleeves. it looks like i'm missing 2 parts... some kind of plastic part. or it doesn't really matter. i havn't put any weight on the front yet. just got the wheels today, going to mount and balance tmw... gonna have the front lifted for a while until i get some real tires on it.

it looks like i'm just getting confused by an older version of the design

thunkrd 04-19-09 01:48 AM

got the ford explorer wheels, don't really care that they aren't perfect. almost put the tires on today, but couldn't because i was working, and swore not to work on my car. hopefully the car will be drivable by monday... 1 week blah

82seven 04-19-09 03:20 AM

it looks awesome!!!

thunkrd 04-19-09 03:44 AM

i'm gonna be driving down to modesto.. maybe i'll stop by stockton... its been way too long. grew up (till 15) in manteca. then moved to the bay area.

on a serious note, a friend of mine has an old ST front sway bar that i might put on my car for now, till i can afford the respeed front bar. has anyone used their rear bar? i think i will pick up an ST rear bar.

Thanks Billy, I'm learning a lot.
Heat treating the bearing part didn't really help me very much. I cleaned it off to make sure no oil or any residue was left on any parts. I then put it in my dad's oven. Unfortunately, it wouldn't let us go down to 300 so we ran it at 426? Then I made a small brick box to put the new bearing in so that it wouldn’t lose quite so much heat. I put it on the strut housing, and it only went in half way… not sure what went wrong. So we took it to the press, and pressed them in.

215 60 15s do not fit respeed coilovers with explorer wheels.. probably will need a spacer, along with new longer studs

dbragg 04-20-09 10:59 PM

215 60 15 should fit, IIRC. Your issue is probably the back spacing on the wheels. With the 5 lug swap you have to place close attention to your wheel choice.

thunkrd 04-21-09 01:35 AM

yeah i got them to fit, its very very tight tolerances. but i have bigger fish to fry. i was finishing up the car... bleeding the new brakes, and i either broke the master cylinder or i have bad caliper seals... I really hope i can fix it by Wednesday.

i can pump the pedal, it starts to build pressure then completely loses all pressure, it feels like its only the front... not sure.

thunkrd 04-21-09 01:03 PM

can i use my stock gsl-se brake lines for now? i will order the ss lines in a few weeks

You will need to take a peek at the end of the SS lines to be sure they are safe to use.

See 197x through 1985 all use a crush washer to seat and seal the line to the caliper body. The TII calipers wer made to accept a inverted flair to seat and seal the line. Our SS lines will serve for both style. Some other brands do not.

To see if your line will work with TII calipers take a look at the very end of the line on the end that goes into the caliper. The attached image is not of a brake line but the fitting on the right has the INTERNAL taper needed. This is the angled portion at the end of the center hole in the fitting.

If you lines have the INTERNAL taper and does not screw all the way down before seating then they will work. If the center hole is simply flat on the end, they will not work.

damn, well then i will be without front brakes. gonna have to order your ss lines asap.

dbragg 04-22-09 08:39 AM

trust me, buy respeed's SS lines and save yourself a lot of trouble. I spent a lot of money trying to get custom ones made locally. After they all failed for various reasons, I bought theirs. ZERO problems since.

thunkrd 04-22-09 09:18 AM

parents told me they'll buy me them. the car must get out of the shop.

Kentetsu 04-22-09 10:17 AM

Looks like you're making some nice progress man! :) Wait until you see some of the videos I brought back from the Dragon, you're going to want your car finished even sooner!

thunkrd 04-22-09 10:19 AM

i really wanna get some sway bars asap. definitely wanna check out yer videos :D

i'm gonna go back to the junkyard and see if the hard line is still there. also, i think i made a mistake when i installed one of the camber plates... its backwards doh!!!

thunkrd 04-22-09 03:18 PM

ordered the SS lines. hopefully billy can get me them asap

thunkrd 04-26-09 10:59 PM

billy says the lines shipped(should be here soon), anticipating getting my car back. wish me luck all
