pressure regulator
 
um dont stone me for asking this but.........i just installed a brand new fuel pump into my 82' GS a couple of days ago.......should i have replace the pressure regulator (ok ok honestly where the hell is this regulater located at)...my car has been acting really strange since the pump install.....my is tach jumping like crazy and the car hesitates so much its rediculous (i can't even hit high speeds on the HWY because it hesitates so much) :confused:

if it's stock, you don't have a regulator. so yes, you need one bad. your floats are probably way out of wack.

What kind of pump did you get? If its a performance one like a mallory or whatever you'll need a reg, if its a stock replacement one you shouldn't need a regulator. The stock pumps are preset, which is why there is no reg stock.

For God's sake don't waste your bucks on the cheapo Purolator "chrome dial" POS !!! They are inaccurate and can come apart and flood gas all over your shit. Mine self destructed while we were standing in front of the opened hood with the engine running. Got a red Holley to match the pump, added a good gauge, set it at 3 1/2 and no more problems.

look at your dizzy as well....cap/contacts could be bad....
