Powersteering pump is out, I need help :)

I was driving my car today, and my powersteering pump has been making noise for awhile now, just some chatter for the last few days, I have always kept the fluids full and such, but today when I was going over the speed bumps at my friends house today, the little bit of chatter just went into full on metal on metal screaming, it was so loud that I pulled into the first parking spot, and just got a ride home, so heres my question, my car is at my friends apartment, which has rules against working on cars in the parking lot, and I need to drive it about 4-5 blocks home, so I can work on it, but I don't know how to drive it without that noise, I only need a solution that will hold up for about 4 block, 5 at the most, cause if its loud, I will be pulled over (cops are like that around the main street here) I can't get a tow truck, as I am broke.
so I was wondering, if I took the belt off of it, what kind of damage might that cause, I'm not worried about the pump being damaged, just the rest of the engine.

disconnecting the p/s belt will not damage or harm the engine. in fact, its even better due to less drag. the downside is hard steeering but you will get use to it. just make sure to let the tires roll prior to turning the wheel. I completely removed everything out of my 85 GSL.

The power teering fluid on these cars will lubricate the steering box, so w/o any fluid you will have some metal on metal friction, so I hear. But you should be ok for a couple of blocks but get it fixed once you get home.

Just my advice. I've taken some flack for this argument but it is my belief that you should keep the fluids topped off to prevent any damage/ please correct me if I am wrong.

you won't damage anything disconnecting the cable, but beware...you'll want to keep in mind be prepared to make wide turns if you are not used to the weight. i say risk it for the 4-5 blocks with it on...when you get it home take it out, and be ready to make a mess taking it out...i just took mine out and it was nasty :( I'm having mine replaced cuz I hate manual steering
