powersteering problem!?!?!?!?

I went to put in some power steering fluid today and though it was fine. I went to the back of the car and looked under and noticed a puddle of liquid in the front of the car. I went back to look at the engine and the little tank for the powersteering fluid..in the front had a hole. Is there a plug that goes there? All the fluid was running out of this hole. I think it was the whole toi drain it, I am not sure though. Can anybody help?

I really don't know if there is a plug for it, mine is manual. However, for a quick fix you might be able to drain the tank and smother the hole with some Seal-all. That stuff will fix damn near anything...

power steering........man i wish i had that.

There are no drain holes in the PS tank.

well i looked at it earlier, it looks like there is a hole in the actuall bracket itself. that is where the fluid is leaking out. it looks like a plug screws in or something but something screws in there.

There are 2 bolts that hold the tank to the pump, along with an elbow. I'll dig around tonight and look. I think I still have one off of a car I can take pics of.

Almost sounds like a mounting bolt fell out.

I think that is what it was.

you should just get rid of it and gain a few extra hp:)

I can't for the life of me find my extra ps pump unit. If you look in the 85 FSM Sec 10B-9, you will find an exploded view of the unit. My best guess is that the bolt # 1 has fallen out. Chances are both of them are loose and the o-ring that is between item 1 and 7 is leaking. There is another o-ring at the other end of that elbow that may be leaking too.

Sorry, that's the best I can do.

power steering isnt necessary, i had it but it leaked and ps fluid eats off the undercoating. if u cant fix it just take it off and free some Hp up and u will gain some extra muscle haha

I added ps to mine. Something about the 225/50/15 front tires that have a nearly 8" wide footprint. Don't need to worry about the undercoat anymore, it was stripped off and recoated with truckbed liner.

I found that the dowel pin leak in an earlier motor softened the undercoat, making one side easy to remove. Too bad it didn't leak on both sides.
