power steering onto s1???
 

hey guys,

im getting a series 1 fb and it has no power steering.... anyone know if the power steering assembly from a series 3/4/5 will work? my car will be right hand drive btw(so an american one wont work....will it ?)

if the series 3/4/5 one wont or i cant find one...will anything else work? im not too familiar with power steering "assemblies" so i got no idea what ill need :)

anyone ever done this before?

by tommorro ill have an fb (my first car) :) the one im considering is a s1 with a 13b n/a :icon_tup: ext bridgey :icon_tup: 48 IDA webber and big exhaust!!! needs a respray though... :) ill be putting up a progress thread with all the mods im gonna attempt.... im missing not being in it already....and i test drove it today!!

A steering box with P/S is different from non-P/S. So you have to get that also in addition to the P/S pump/bracket, then you have to re-wire it. And its not really p/s, it is power assisted wherein it gets tighter at higher speed.

Do you really need power (assisted) steering? You may find that you don't. I'm not buff and I can handle manual steering fine.

Hasn't the doctor been telling you to build up those arm and shoulder muscles?

= basically NO !

The US pump & bracket = YES ,
But the rest of the system won't , steering box , lines , etc all of it running to the opposite side that you need !

Being in Western Australia and your relaxed importing rules , it would be easier to chase a original S-3 12AT parts car / wreck and pull the whole front end off !
Ps- don't forget to pull the 12AT dash cluster as well .

My GSLs had power steering but when the boxes went bad I unhooked the belts and found they handle fine, even better, without the power. And the most recent GSL I got came stock without PS, the best yet. If yours came stock without PS I'd seriously consider keeping it that way, less maintenance and better handling.
