Power Steering

What do I have to do if I want to disable my power steering besides remove the belt of course? Do I have to do anything with the fluid in the pump? Will I do any permanent damage to the pump running without a belt?

Jimmy...Jimmy....Jimmy....

What in the world are you doing? Why rid yourself of the power steering?

Denny, from the corncrib....

I haven't been able to get to the gym in a while, so I thought I'd take out the PS so I could at least work on my arms while I drive to and from work.

Seriously, I've read a lot of posts about this, but nobody said why they did it. What's the gain? Maybe a little bit of extra hp's at the track?

I'm just trying to understand, that's all.

Tazio Nuvalari

Got a great idea, pardner...

Lose the steering wheel....Less weight in the car. And do like 'Ol Racing Great Tazio supposedly did during a Grand Prix....Having his steering wheel come off in his hands during the last of the race, the plucky Tazio simpley threw the wheel out, and steered by gripping the steering column with his hands....Don't recall if story revealed how he placed, but Holy Cow, that fella had to have some massive forearms, and the grip of radial ply tire!

See, Pele has even a better idea!

Hey, I've got it....Toss the steering wheel out the window during a smackdown public roadrace....The opposition's gotta back off thinkin' that you're some kinda WildMan!

I took the belt off mine because the pump was leaking so much that I had to fill it back up everytime I filled the gas tank. I found that the better feeling (personal opinion) was just an added benefit. I haven't really searched for a new pump & resivor(also leaks) really hard, but the only ones I found were stupid expensive... SO I just removed the belt. Any reason this would be terrib;e on the system? The pump is prety much gone anyway, so no loss there...
