Power Antenna
Hey
I have an 85 Gsl-SE...It has a black chrome power antenna..........I hear the but the antenna does not go up.....Is there a replacement kit for this? Jim |
dude, you can ask around on the parts forum, but you're probably going to be less aggravated just going around and looking for a nice one in a car audio or electronics store ... plus, if that one goes bad, then you have a warranty.
just my 2 cents! :) |
hehe jim, dont bother with a high end one..mine was busted when i bought the car...so i got one from walmart...works just fine....canadian tire also carries it....but seeing as you arent in canada...;)
took roughly an hour to install, and maybe another half hour to wire it in.....but since you already have all the wiring in place (mine was ahot)..should be like 5 min:) Paul |
could be whoever installed your stereo didn't realize that the power antenna uses a positive ground, similar to the Lucas system in many older British cars.

Unless you are in love with the power unit or live in an area with destructive street urchins, get the cheap manual units. They don't crap out and if they get broken its only a 10 buck item. And try 50 minutes to two hours to fix a unit. They are harder than hell to wiggle out from the inside of the car and you are guaranteed to drop one nut down the inner fender well. Its not hard, just a real pia job.

Factory replacement mast....
Mazdatrix or Almaden Mazda (they ship from San Jose) will give you the best prices. With a little mechanical reasoning, not that hard. Access is via removing the right taillight.

Cool. I prefer the power antenna to lower @ carwashes and raise to full tall-as-a-transmission-tower height for best reception in the mountains.
An associate of mine has a DeLorean with windowglass antenna that can't receive rain in a deluge. |

I think they run like $35 :) Easy install and they are available in ebony (black) also.. And the height of a FM ant will be 31" :) Beleive it or not thats a question on the MECP first class test :) |
WTF????????
Positive Ground? What the hell? The car it's self is a negative ground, how the hell could the antena be postive ground?
