Plug wire question

Does the distibutor cap have any marks to indicate which wire goes to which plug? I am going to try to help a friend with an 84 rx7. My second gen has the L1/L2/T1/T2 designations on the ignitors. Any pictures or info would help.

Yes there are. They should be labeled L, T, L1, T1, L2, T2. My OEM caps had 'em, so did my Bosch replacements. No number means that's where the coil wire goes in. The trailing coil is the one near the headlight assembly and the leading coil is the one closer to the engine.

If they AREN'T marked, it's a little trickier but doable! The one in the center is L. There are five others... two are 180 deg apart, and two are 90deg apart, and the fifth is all alone on the other side of the cap. That one is T. (It should be roughly towards the middle of the radiator) Going clockwise from T, you have T1, L1, L2, T2. The L leads form a right triangle with the right angle at the center and the T leads form a larger one closer to the radiator.

http://www.geocities.com/riceracinga...a/naengine.htm has at the bottom a BEAUTIFUL pic of the layout, and you can clearly see where all of the wires go on the engine.

peejay's explanation was really good.

You could also flip the cap over and see which contacts the rotor matches with as it spins around. If you have any questions, just whip out the old continuity tester and see for yourself. (test the contacts themselves, not the rotor-to-cap continuity, unless your tester uses several thousand volts. ZAP! :eek)

Thanks for the advice. The picture was really just what I needed.
